photobucket

If you didn't know already Photobucket users will no longer be able to use their site for free. This will break all my photo links and I'm sure it will for many others. I'm in the process of removing all my content from photobucket. I'd re-post the pics somewhere but I have far too many pics that I'...

Reminds me to an us brand ... always talking about how important and different epoxy is because he knows ... he comes from aerospace ... and that its a carbon board... We cut up one board and guess what ... two tiny carbon strings inside ... LOL Exactly! The public has no other way to know what’s...

Gketcham, that’s why I started this post. From what I’ve read so far, it’s so expensive I wonder how much Head uses. I haven't seen other big manufacturers advertise it in their skis yet. Can’t imagine it’s used in the entire ski but who knows. It’s pretty awesome stuff but will the aver...

Section8-GS Comp

After years of hemming-n-hawing I finally bit the bullet and made a GS style racing ski. Spent yesterday skiing on it (12/28) . It happened to be a bitter cold day, 0F. Snowbase was hard with loose snow on top. No idea what the wind chill was. Ski specs: 180cm 116-68-100 Ash core Ipe sidewall Entrop...

Section8 - GS COMP

Been awhile since I posted about a build. I did some redesign of a cheater style race Ski I had kickin around in my head for quite some time. It had a square tail and rounded the tail. Also I think I did a first, I used Flax and titanal in the ski, no FG or cf. The wood core is ash with Ipe sidewall...

I pressed the ski, did all the finish work on it, base grind, edge sharpening, wax, etc. I put the titanal on the top layer. I split the titanal in half. The titanal did extend over the bindings area. There was no problem trimming the titanal. The ski is not overly stiff. A single full sheet would h...

Update... I used the router to trim the edge of the sample piece I made and it does work ok. I took a minute shaving off, a bit scary, I think it dulls the router bit pretty quick. Obviously bits of AL scatter about. The titanal Edge had tiny ridges from the router bit which would/should be sanded o...

For anyone who has used titanal or any metal in their layup... How does the router handle cutting through the metal when beveling the sidewall?? Thinking of using full width titanal. Figured I’d post the question before I ruin a bit or worse ruin the ski. I’m assuming bits of metal will be flyin...

Same. I use the adjustable Toko for base filing and Toko Edge tuner for edges.

Tuning does make a big difference. I always keep the skis sharp and waxed. No need to go over board unless you’re on a World Cup.

I use full flax and carbon. I use uni carbon about 4-5 ounces. I use a 2inch strip of carbon down the middle. Skis are damp but carbon gives them good rebound. And I use ash for the core.

Still gathering info.... Trying to figure out how much titanal to use. In my atomics it has 2 full width sheets but the ski is not overly stiff. Based on my sample piece, which is about 6x8 it won’t flex at all. So I’m leery about using 2 full sheets. Also looks like my atomics don’t have tip ...

Welcome back. Check out Bcomp for cores and flax instead of fiberglass. Entropy for resin. Prepreg has resin in it that gets activated when heated. You’d need to know what’s in the prepreg, gases will be given off when heated. Entrpoy is your best bet so far. I used polyurethane glue (gorilla gl...
