I agree that it would be nice to have more of a choice in edge dimensions as well as base thickness. I would love to have more material to work with and would trade the extra weight for it any day. My park skis always crack from sliding rails and I have tuned many skis in the shop that exhibit the s...

I agree that I can get the base just as flat either way. However, I do notice that when I don't do the relief the topsheet isn't as flat. They come out just slightly concave. Not a big deal at all since I try not to ski on the tops of my skis. Whichever way I am doing it,I account for the finished s...

Shif, your skis look great. I'll keep an eye out for the logo on your skis in the lift lines at Squaw. I am definitely going to increase my core thickness for the next pair. I have yet to make a ski that is too heavy or stiff so I need to explore the other end of the spectrum. I also think that rock...

I made a pair of Steel Dragons for myself over the weekend. http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww150/dohparty/DSC05744.jpg http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww150/dohparty/DSC05745.jpg I used some leftover fabric from the last pair of skis and this time used the iron on transfers for the logos. The...

So I got a quick reply from Corecomposites and this is what he had to say: "Thank you for your inquiry. CoreCork sent its first container to North America in May 2010. We are expecting our second container to arrive in late September. I mention this because this product is brand new to the mark...

I am not sure what that mystery "composite wood" is. It does look very light and flexible though. I came across an interesting cork resource website. It looks like cork is used for many more applications than I imagined. I am going to look into it more but their price and order specs sheet...

Cork Layer

Has anyone ever tried using a cork layer in the layup? I read a few posts where there was some interest but couldn't find any results. I think it might have some useful damping properties but might not bond well since it doesn't absorb liquids. I don't think I have heard of any big manufacturers usi...

I got the fabric at JoAnn's fabric place in Reno. They have the best selection of fabric around but it still is 99% girly stuff. Any time I have been in there I am the only guy! I am going to do one more pair of this fabric and then I want to get some topsheets printed at Coda. I tested the Contact ...

I busted out another pair of skis this past weekend. This pair is for my son and I used the same templates for the base and core that I made my wife's skis with. I found some dragon fabric that I liked and used that for the graphic. The logos I printed out on sticker paper but they turned quite see ...

You shouldn't need to prebend edges in the sidecut area. You just need to put both sides on at the same time as you work down the ski. Equal tension on both sides equals a straight ski.

How about a ShamWow? As much as I hate to say it, I want to get one of those things.

In the mean time, an old t-shirt and compressed air works well.

Great looking work so far. My one suggestion for putting on edges is to clamp your base to your template, get both edges all clamped up, and glue away. Even using prebent edges your base can get skewed slightly if not clamped to your template and doing both sides at once. You probably don't need to ...

Falls, There are a couple of ways to do it depending on what tools you have available and how big your shim needs to be. What was easiest for me was using my sliding 10" miter saw and a piece of 4 X 4. I put it long ways up against the fence and used a longer piece than I needed to keep my secu...

Soul Flight Skis for the Wife

I finally got back on the building track after making a lot of changes to my designs and techniques. I also got the press back in my garage where previously it had moved around to a couple locations in Reno. Carrying steel is not fun. I also got another heat blanket to have more control over my camb...
