I have never done a totally flat binding mount area in my profile. I figured I would get a rounder flex with something like a flat bell curve. But you do have me thinking that maybe the rate of taper does need to change some. I think for my next pair I want to reduce the core apex by .5 mm and incre...

simmer down now
I keep telling my skis to simmer down now but they aren't listening. My last pair came out super light and seem to have no damping properties at all. Off trail they are nervous, deflect easily, and bounce around quite a lot in choppy crud. At least on smooth groomed when locked in a carve they feel ...

Everything is looking sweet. I am envious of your workspace and access to materials. Yes, prefinished bamboo will take a toll on planer(thicknesser) blades. I haven't been able to find any unfinished either. Have you tried Kingswood to see if they could help out? Also, you can always attach wood sid...

I also figured out that most home office printers won't take a custom page size the full length of the ski. My printer maxes out at something like 43 inches. I am pretty sure that only the expensive large format printers can print a full ski on one page. If anyone knows otherwise, let me know what p...

The store I go to is just an office supply store, not a Staples. I don't know where you live but I would just call around first and see who has a large format printer that knows what they are doing. One thing I have realized is that it is not as simple as you would think to convert to PDF and have i...

My local place can only print PDF. I found some software at www.docudesk.com to convert it and maintain scale. The "trial" version puts a watermark on the document but you don't have to fork over any dough to use it.

If I had to draw up a ski arc by hand without a CAD printout I would use a thin flexible piece of wood that I could bend in an arc and then trace it. Say you wanted a ski with specific dimensions. I would first draw a straight center line for the middle of the ski. Then I would measure off this cent...

I made a ski similar to what you have in mind and it sits on a shelf in my garage now. It is ok in pure powder but I have made other skis with just a little sidecut that I like better in pow. I thought it would be a happy medium between a reverse sidecut and regular sidecut but it never impressed me...

I have been using the 49 resin and 408 hardener with success. I have a heat blanket setup and this stuff is designed for curing at elevated temps. I paid $101.98 for a gallon of resin and quart of hardener and this included shipping. This will cover me for 5 pair. I have only had one ski delam and t...

Don't worry about making a complex vertically laminated core for just one pair. You can get great results from a single blank of pine, poplar, maple, fir, etc. Just make sure it is knot and crack free. The epoxy is definitely pricey especially when you factor in how much it is to get the stuff shipp...

Are you trying to put an angle on your sidewall? If you are, I would think you would be looking for a dovetail bit, not a chamfer bit. Either way, you can add a bearing and collar to the bit with the size that you need. Another option is to use a fence with your router. If you do this, I suggest mak...

Yeah I figured they were for touring once I saw the pics. My xc skis have similar fish scales. Are you using a tilt base laminate trimmer for this or some other secret method? It looks time consuming but I think the desired effect will work. I wouldn't abort the mission since it looks like you are o...
