I'll be getting up there a little before 9am. I plan to ride for a little bit, then hang out in the lot looking for people. Hope to fire up the grill around noonish. We'll be in lot 4... look for the truck with a grill strapped to the top of it.

Let's make this happen on the 2nd for sure! The snowboardseattle crew will be up there for their end of season BBQ, so come join the fun. I'm bringing a grill and food and there'll be plenty to go around. I'd love to sit and chat with you guys about building. I'll bring a few recent boards for show ...

I busted up my only camcorder early in the season and I haven’t gotten around to replacing it yet. When I do, I’ll make you a video. Until then, I use the tip of the flame from a standard propane torch, on pass, moving approx 4-5 in/sec. As for a visit, send me a PM sometime and I’m sure we can work...

G-Man, I’ve thought a couple of times that having a 4th axis would be nice, but for other projects not for snowboards :) I’ve seen some bad-ass homebuilt 5 axis machines out there, though… cool stuff. bigKam, good move on the cyclone. The dust these machines can generate is pretty amazing sometimes ...

Like doughboy I’ve also had no problem bonding my ptex sidewalls. The material I have is from Crown. I abrade with 80 grit alu-oxide sandpaper just until the surface is no longer smooth, then flame treat with the very tip of a flame from a propane torch. I’ve got boards with 50+ days of abuse (and I...

Thanks for the props guys. Yea, I’m kinda anal about keeping the shop clean  G-Man, yea, running a plate of 3/4" alu on a tablesaw was not something I would have thought was a good idea, but it turned out okay. Lots of WD40 as a lubricant, and IIRC a blade with as many teeth as I could fi...

Composites expo and classes at the Seattle Fiberlay

This one’s for all you Seattle-area builders: Was down at Fiberlay on Friday to pickup some carbon and Kevlar. Good place to buy composites in small or large quantities, in case you’re not already aware. Anyway, I noticed a flyer advertising “Fiberlay’s first ever Composite Materials Expo”, on May 1...

Nice work man, congrats on the machine. Your box looks great, too! (Hmmm… not sure I’ve ever said that to a guy before…) Looks like you’ll be machining cores in no time. I also use Gecko drives and I do find that after a long session that they put out quite a lot of heat. I mounted them to an alumin...

Rockaukum, I use both 19 and 22oz triax, though mostly the 22oz. The board above had 22oz.

Weigh all your parts and see where your weight is going. Here’s a real example, all weights in grams, and all but the foil weight are final in-board weights: Base and edges: 615 Foil: 25 Core: 919 Inserts: 69 Glass: 634 Epoxy: 485 Top sheet: 312 Total final board weight: 3059 This is typical of the ...

Heh… see my post on the copyright issues around Adriot707’s choice of graphics. Realistically, you need to consult an attorney in your jurisdiction on the matter. I had the same questions as you many years ago… the money spent on the attorney was well worth it, I assure you.

Regarding Adriot707’s board: I got to see it firsthand the other night and I have to say that he’s done a pretty good job his first time out! He especially did a good job with that funky mold profile and getting the base and core pre-bent to match. There is no way that the vacuum would have been eno...
