I haven't used them, but there's a thread over at ttips talking about these kind of inserts...

Could be wrong since I'm no jibber... But isn't just how springy a ski is? Or being good at releasing stored energy, say when flexed when you hit a kicker.

Oh semantics... So would a ski that has a lot of pop be not damp?

Ahh, it just looked really symmetric and looks kinda like the metal tips on the Volkl Mantras.

What weight is the carbon? Did you guys do something different with the tips? In the last action pic it looks like you can see a white tipspacer.

That 's great.
It can be the name for a ski company.
Ditto. And I love the graphics. But if you keep going in that direction you're gonna end up with paisley skis. :D

The word I've got on the Pontoon is that it's "rockered" in the tip and tail, with no camber underfoot. And there is a little sidecut directly underfoot, but overall the ski "tapers down" I've also heard great things. I want to try em. There's actually a pair in the shop down th...

online binding templates

I don't think anybody has mentioned this yet, just saw it on ttips. It's a collection of paper binding templates for various tele bindings. Maybe useful for placing inserts.

Those have actually been around for a while. I demoed one of those maybe 10 years ago at Copper. I wasn't that skilled at tele when I tried it [and I've only been on a snowboard a handful of times], but it was pretty easy to make some turns. Pretty fun.

That's not exactly what I was thinking, though it does sound interesting... I was wondering if anyone can think of any issues with pressing the glass-core-glass part of the ski, and then pressing the topsheet and base in a second pressing. The only thing I can think of is aligning the base to the co...

multiple press layup?

I've been playing around with some super seekrit skunk works ideas, can't tell or I'd have to kill you and all, or get laughed at  but... Can anyone think of any issues with doing some laminating and then doing a seond pressing for, say base and topsheet? I can't think of anything, but I could...

Other threads have talked about some of the issues with useing metal, like delamination issues if it's not on both sides of the core, hard to work with, expense, etc. As for treating it so it glues well "Lennart" mentioned etching with phosphoric acid, though he may have been talking about...

Ok, I added up the number's I got from titanal-sports.com and of course I get 99.8%. Leaving 0.2% Ti, my bad. Why they don't mention it on the list of metals I don't know. [I may have said this somewhere else allready, but...] I've been thinking about metals because I've been lusting after th...

ive talked to a guy that runs a ski manufacturing business out of jackson, WY. Theyve been operating for 10 years, and are currently running approx. 120psi and making mass production quality products....this seems high to me, but apparently it doesnt squeeze out all the epoxy--maybe they use a prog...

I think that at least half of what's out there that says "these skis have titanium" is marketing bullshit. Case in point from Karhu: Titanal – Titanal is a Titanium alloy that is very effective at storing energy and releasing it with minimal losses (a high rate of restitution). It offers t...
