thanks OAC. I greatly appreciate your advice. you and sammer were the journals i looked at the most when i started to build. the vacumaster 2000 or 3000 ?? was my blueprint for my press and I learned a ton from all the pictures/videos of your workshop so thanks for taking the time and effort for pos...

thanks kit and OAC. Ill anneal and prebend the next pair for sure. Now that i look back on all the pairs i've made the tips and tails that came out the best were the ones that have a very gradual bend and low rise - the ones with more pronounced bends not so much. Kit I'm buying a pair of the pliers...

Thanks for all the info Dave and Kit. So i just finished the skis i pressed last week and the excess epoxy on the one tip ground out in two passes so it was a lot thinner than it looked so the tips conformed to the mold better than i thought. The tails were better than before but took a lot more wor...

Thanks for the advice. I just pressed another pair and it looks like rabbeting the tip and tail fill helped some. The tails and one of the tips has less epoxy than before but one tip on one side still had more than i would prefer. The next pair I'll try to prebend the tips and tails. Do you guys ann...

excess tip/tail epoxy vacuum press

Ok so I've made 10 or so skis thus far. On most of them I get quite a bit of epoxy around the tip and tail edges that's a pain to grind off - it usually works out ok but I want to fix the problem. I use a vacuum table for pressing and get good pressure- the most I can get out of it 25inHg at 2000'. ...

Thanks for the response - I think I'm going with the Fontaine machine - the 680. Funny I just saw your youtube video with the Toyo grinder and was going to PM you about the autofeed at some point. I seem to remember reading on here somewhere that you only had $60 in to it?? I'll see how it goes with...

Grindrite st600

Got pics of Fontaine 680 and it was in rough shape. Found a Grindrite st600 in decent shape just looking at the pictures but the seller says the drum is pretty worn - can you get new drums or remachined drums and if so how much do they run? Do they make an edging attachment for skis? Thanks

Thanks - is it a 6 inch belt? Do you have a good source for belts and coolant? Do you feel like you need the auto feed for doing new skis or can u manage with it? Do you have the edge attachment? I've only used a base grinder a handful of times and that was 20 yrs ago so sorry for all the questions....

Base grinders

Anybody have any experience with a Fontaine 680? Looking for a base grinder and found the 680 with optional auto feed. How does this compare to a st600 in quality - I only plan on doing skis at least for now. 155mm tip would be the widest I would need. Any insight would be great - Thanks

Thanks for the info - I looked around for some silicone sheets today and I'll go that route if I can find it in smaller quantities - just thought the poly would be more flexible. Ill try to make the poly work for now by cutting the mold down -Thanks OAC - nice journals by the way. Love the bandsaw c...
