Which is lighter. P-tex, ABS, Wood, Epoxy for sidewalls

I'm curious which of these 4 sidewall materials is lighter, or if it is even noticable. Anyone have experience using all 4 of these?

Thanks for the input. For added strength then, more glass and carbon would be the trick instead of 1 layer of Kevlar. What about the Fiberglass w/ kevlar stringers that "snowboardmaterials.com" sells. That would add strength without the hassle to cut and deal with, right?

Kevlar

Has anyone used a whole ski length/ width sheet of Kevlar? In place of Carbon or Fiberglass?

That also is a very great idea. Looks like all I need to do now is get some money for materials!

Thanks SD, I overlooked any idea like that. Did you have to put any steel across the press lengthwise to reduce deflection?

I was writing plans for 7 2x8" Micro lam boards bolted together. I figure that would make it a solid block of wood, but I can't figure out a good way to attach to the vertical support micro lam. Does that make sense? Any advice would be great help. I also suck at CAD and have no money so it's h...

Microlam

Has anyone tried using Microlam for a ski press. I know some people who are making bow presses out of it and not having problems. They are pressing at 60- 80 psi.

Thanks

I would imagine the Ipe would create excellent torsional rigidity, but would add a lot of weight. So I guess if you want a ski that is a lot stiffer this may do about the same as adding metal.

Do you have any materials left? I would love some edges and base material.
I live in Denver and will drive to pick up.

Ipe wood

I just heard about Ipe wood. does anyone have experience working with this or know anything about how it performs. I tried to flex a 3 foot board of it and i couldn't make it bend at all. Its also very heavy. Any thoughts on how this would differ from other hard stiff heavy woods.

Oh wow, thanks so much for that info. That steel has to be more burly than just a regular i beam press? Would those parts add a lot more expenses to a press?

Also, does anyone know what Olympic ski jumping skis are made of (core mostly)? They are super floppy, thought that idea might make a good powder ski.
