Always mix your epoxy by weight. get a good digital scale to help you with this. . Second that motion. Weighing by volume (and by eye) worked great until one day when I tried using more of everything, then it didn;t. Now I use a cheap digi kitchen scale, cover it in clingfilm to avoid getting epoxi...

Magnesium Composites

From a recent press relase by Gnu: "In addition to Asym Sym Sync, elliptical EC2 camber/banana with Magne-Traction underfoot creates a fun, all-mountain ride. Impossibly strong, ultra-lightweight magnesium fiber , rugged Bio Beans topsheet material, black and blue swirl sidewalls, lightweight C...

Agreed, a light glass is all that's needed i woudl think. Did you mean to say 19oz? Iwas thinking of going way lighter than that.

I'll keep in touch and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the pointer!

Oh Christ. Topo contours as graphic is done to DEATH. I can't believe someone has the gold-plated balls to do this again. Rossi, Voile, Prior, Jones...i swear there's more.

Kinda like those skis though.

I think the odds it will re-bond and look fine are good. i think the odds that it'll last are nil.

I've tried this a couple of times and it never really works. However, you'll get a few rides out of them and with all the work you've put in, that's better than a poke in the eye with sharp stick.

Are you sure you had the epoxy/hardener mix correct? if you have a short pot life and are mixing in multiple batches, and screwed up the last batch, then that might explain it. I got burned on this a while back after getting lazy and mixing by volume instead of weight. Now I'm back to weighing the e...

Wow, weird. The only other thing i can think of is uneven epoxy curing between the top and bottom, due ither to different heats or maybe using two different bathces of epoxy and screwing up the mix? i msut admit i'm not sure that would to arcing edge to edge. Either way, i would still shoulder the e...

I would shoulder your edges but I doubt that caused your arc problem. Sounds like that may be asymmetry in your lAyup...different fibre orientation, use of carbon, etc?

Oops, I wasn't very clear. The wood sidewalls are supposedly super jarring on your knees on the hard stuff. I would think that problem is much worse on skis than on snowboards. I also heard a little tidbit; 4Front use a certain type of wood for sidewalls (maple?) that will "breathe" a litt...

Are wood sidewalls really all that? Skiers tell me they work for powder, but as soon as hit anything hard your knees are begging for the sweet release of death.

Look awesome though.

Re: Triaxial Carbon Fiberglass?

Well, it's definitely not triaxial fibreglass (which I really want, anyone have any ideas?), it's triaxial glass with carbon tows in the 0 direction. Pretty standard stuff. It seems like a hell of a lot of carbon for a board, but the last time I flexed a voile i practically gave myself a hernia, so ...

.But it's best for your health to let epoxy harden on and then clean. I learned first hand about absorbing stuff through your skin years ago picking mushrooms on a dewy morning. Lets just say it was surprisingly fun. :D :D :D :D Hahh! Reminds me why i never eat rice krispy treats any more if i didn...

Water, then a final gentle pass with denatured alcohol. I've heard rumours of acetone enhancing uptake of solvents into the skin <shuddder>
