Haha check out the comments too. Richie is straight onto them. yup, thought I would get an interesting answer and I did!!! a cool $68K USD for a "steel rule machine" aka edge bender. Think I would try making one before spending that sort of money, most of the smarts are in the software......

vacuum cyclone

First project on it will obviously be a dust collection set up, HAHA. With it in that corner like that it'll make a hell of a mess real quick. Got a cyclone separator on order so just need the ducting and the dust skirt around the spindle. I just built a mean as cyclone from a 44 gallon drum, its a...

http://www.junksupply.com/ski-calculator/ This looks well thought out and there is a lot of research and engineering knowledge in it, while this won't necessarily be the silver bullet still with so many variables it is good to understand the influence of them all rather than relying on gut feel and ...

DrillSki (as distinct from Shot Ski !!)

Hi, well in the true spirit of being a part geek and lazy as well, I've decided on a tool to make my life easier and hopefully others. I'm sure a lot of us use downloaded templates for marking out and drilling skis for binding mounting, well why not combine all of that knowledge and IP into a databa...

DUDE!!! That will look sick on a board or ski. With the detail possible with a laser you could do some gorgeous topsheets. The bulky stuff I have seen already looks cool but fine detailed stuff would look awesome, how fine a line would you think you could achieve? Would the standard option on Inksc...

Or you just buy a ready made laser cutter/engraver for 300 bucks on aliexpress ;) Too true, aliexpress has so many goodies !!! However apart from that taking half the fun out of it for me, I want a more powerful laser that will burn faster , a complex pattern would take a long time. Still one of th...

laser burnt veneer top sheet designs - a simple tool

Hi guys, as part of my ongoing immersing myself into CNC related tech I have decided I will be building a small solid state laser. Pretty much all open source software driven using Inkscape and a laser plugin then outputting to a Gcode sender (Universal Gcode Sender) and GRBL based cnc laser control...

Its a crap feeling for a while but I have learnt to accept the old balls up and in fact these are the cheapest learnings you can get - in reality where could you learn this lesson anywhere else? University? I doubt it...... Just don't repeat the mistake or you have not learnt!!!!! Make a checklist t...

Re: Edges - CDW vs Metalldeutsch (SWD - Friedrich Deutsch)

Hi, Does anyone have a comparison between those tho edge manufacturers? I have been using Metalldeutsch and it was ok, but I have the feeling that edges were rusting easily - on a ready made ski (not during the storage on shelf). I use standard CK60 edge, because for that the MOQ is low. I know tha...

I filled a hole with chopped up fibreglass and epoxy once then redrilled the right spot (that was through the epoxy filler) and put a binding freedom ski insert in. It has been OK. But I think the pucks on a split are prob more important than one binding screw on a ski I would use some epoxied in t...

progress

Hi guys, Well since my last posts on this, when I was as far as bench testing my MACH3 controller and servo system, I have now bitten the bullet and purchased a really well constructed DIY machine. So excited to try it!!! I'll actually graft my controller on to it and remove the current gear as my e...

ski press

I modified my press as a clamshell with air rams to open it up and a big 1" locking pin to lock it. This means I can load by myself very accurately positioning the cassette on to the profiles. The heat blanket is sanwiched between 2 more sheets of steel 0.8mm gauge, and attached to underneath t...
