Jason, Thanks for the info. I have actually been thinking of welding a couple 2" square tubing pieces in the ends of the i-beam spacer (where you were suggesting putting the metal plate). What do you think of just putting a couple of two inch welds along the length of the i-beams to stop them f...

Igneous uses thin sheets of wood veneer as there tip spacers. Four or five sheets make up there spacers. Great guys and amazing attention to detail in there skis.

Knights, I currently have 10 1/2" in the press cavity, so it sounds like I will be able to make it work with the cattrack and heat blanket. I was just planning on going smaller with the mold height and then spacing that as needed. I hear you on the saftey issue. I am going to go back and weld a...

Oasis,

I can do two skis at a time. The press is 16" wide and 10 feet long. I happened to find four matching I-beams at the scrap yard and didn't want to deal with cutting them shorter.

Knights,

Thanks! I am wondering if I might have to shim as well, that's why I haven't welded it all yet. I am going to see where I'm at after the molds are done. What's your press cavity height? What do you think is the least I can get away with? I am going to add heat blanket and cattrack.

Press and Core Pics

I thought I would post some pics of the progress on my press and cores. I always enjoy seeing other peoples, so now I can return the favor. The bladders are at 100psi in the photo with no noticeable leaks. I am hoping to get started on molds in the next two weeks. I also wanted to just say a quick t...

Oasisvader, I have been thinking the same thing. Why not have fittings on both ends of the fire hose so you could flow hot water through. I guess I am wondering if there is a cheap enough way to heat the water and get it to the right temp and pressure? How accurately could it be maintained? Just som...

mounting point questions?

Question 1: I know that the standard is to put the sidecut center and boot center with approx. 55% of the skis surface area in front. I am wondering if that means 55% of running length or of total ski length. I realize this is all dependent on a lot of factors, but I just looking for a general start...

Plywood, Igneous skis use a wood sidewall (wood tipspacers as well). I will have to look closely at my friends to see the grain direction. Igneous skis also seem to be some of the toughest out there, based on my friends that ski them and shop guys here at Jackson Hole that repair skis. The edges are...

There is an aluminum tail on the igneous skis now, maybe they where grinding that. I think Igneous makes some of the best skis I have ever been on. I am going to visit Parris at the factory in few weeks to see how there process works. It has been interesting to see the progression of there skis over...

Mark, Great work on the cores. I have done a little resawing on my bandsaw (18" old laguna) and have been able to resaw to 10" with out much wandering. I do use a fence similar to what Mark is describing. It's made of 3/4" ply and mounts to my regular fence. The ply fence comes to a r...

Well I have been reading everyone elses post for awhile, so I figured I better start contributing. I have been going through the same debate as to how many wood strips to include in my cores. I have been thinking that as the number on strips increases, so does the amount of glue. Thus the properties...
