Yup PU... If that first pic is with your pump pulling full vacuum you have a weak pump or a leak somewhere. I would hook up a vacuum gauge directly to your pump and see what it's pulling. If your not getting below 23"hg I would look at getting another pump. I would suspect though, if the pump w...

Yup, always worried about that and made the transition a V. The problem is your core tapers so the thickness varies, this means your 2mm tip spacer is not the same thickness as your core for all of the junction. Started going straight across butt joint a few years ago and have yet to see a problem. ...

Re: Stupid things you did when ski building

I prepared sidewalls and tipspacers for layup - first the alcohol wipe, took a cloth, put quite some alcohol on it and wiped the sidewalls - put the cloth next to the sidewalls. Can you already guess whats next? Oh yes, I did it! I started flaming, went with the torch from one side to the other, an...

I just mop, There's probably as much base "dust" as water on the floor. That would plug up your drain in no time. Looks like it's going to be a nice shop! What's the size? I spent the last 2-1/2 days cleaning everything out of mine and acid etching the floor. Gotta dry for another day then...

Water boils below ambient temperature at vacuum pressures. So even if you did install a filter it wouldn't condense the water out of the gas. More likely the mist from your pump is oil vapor. This vapor is very bad in your workshop as everything in there will be getting a very fine coating of oil. I...

As requested, thought I'd link it here for everyone to revisit. http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2069 Easiest to machine the single roller for tangs in 2 pieces, then bolt it back together with the handle. Also allows you to shim for different tang thicknesses. Nylock nuts hold the ...

Secret to nippers is keeping them perpendicular to the edge.
Properly built 3 roll edge bender should keep them true.

Danielbroski wrote:so stoked on my recent purchase. The guy I know who owns the ski shop was getting rid of an old Wintersteiger SBN 350 with the edge grinder that he didn't need anymore, and offered it to me for $350. Went over to check it out and came back with a new grinder.
Is it 3 phase?

Nice deal!!!

Gotta get my floor coated in the shop before I move all the crap in there. Epoxy? Best thing I ever did in my shop. Leaning towards Rust Bullet, it's a single component moisture cured urethane. Way less prep and just paint it on. How did the epoxy deal with the fire? Sorry to hijack your thread Chr...

I bought some vector net last year from Foam-EZ but haven't had a chance to try it yet. It was pricey and shipping doubled it. Bought the 1/2". http://www.foamez.com/vector-net-xp-227-12-diamond-pattern-33-wide-per-foot-p-959.html It's not CF, it's Techora aramid, but it looks pretty cool. Plan...

I would shorten up the running length and make the tip longer.
Around 120mm?

Would make it look more proportional.
And give a bit more tip height.

Other than that should work.

I've posted this before but will humor you and post it again 'cause it's been a while. The best thing I've ever found beside leaving your wood sidewalls untreated, is boiled linseed oil. Wipe it on, let it dry, wipe it off, and you're done for a year or more. I've got skis with over 120 days/6yrs st...

Vacuum should easily bend your wood cores.
Unless you prebend your cores they will not lay flat in your mold and make your layup and alignment more difficult.
They will also add some internal stress, trying to straighten out inside your ski.
This is one reason why people use tip spacer.
