I also planning on pressing overnight without a heat blanket. I was thinking about trying to use the wires from a regular electric blanket t provide some in mold heat. I know this would not create as much heat as a silicone heating blanket but it would proved some heat. I'm guessing something like t...

sammer the planer method is the way to go for sure. Thanks for reminding me of that. I now have the spacers done and the MDF planed flat. I had to plane the MDF because it had gotten some water spots on it and was a little bumpy. I was able to sue all of my spacers from yesterday's screw up with the...

That is a good idea. Right now I'm using MDF for my spacers just because that is what I have. I got a sheet of MDF free from a guy on craigslist. I guess I could cut a 3 cm strip and then plane that down in the appropriate intervals for each spacer. It will be dusty but it will be more accurate. Tha...

I got about 1/2 way though cutting my spacers today and realized I was cutting them wrong. Instead to taking a base height of say 3 cm and subtracting the core width from each spacer to get a negative profile. I added the width on to each spacer giving me a great profile of the core but not a negati...

wouldn't a coat of hot wax seal everything out? Or would the wax cause some kind of degradation of the OSB?

right on. That is the kind of stuff I needed to know. After hearing that I changed and went with a 2-11-2 profile without the flat spot. I like a round flexing ski and fro the sounds of it the flat spot I designed would just make a super still ski that would be tough to decamber in a turn. I'm hopef...

I guess I'm going with a flat spot just because I thought it would make mounting the binding easier.

if 11mm ish is close to a legend PRO or XXL then I think I'd be happy with something just lightly less stiff. So again I think I'n now in the ball park. Thanks

I'm not shooting for super stiff, just stiff. I think I'll got will 2-11-2 with a flat mount of 350mm and see what happens. I'm using the excel work sheet for ski dimensions to pick specific points along the length of the core to measure width and transfer that yo my profiler spacer blocks. Now that...

I'm likely going to put maple under the edges and binding mounts and the rest poplar. as for the layup I have a tecnical advisor so to speak with many years experience in the snowboard industry. I'll be hitting him up for some assistance on the big day. But I get your point on having a good clean la...

I realize that even .1mm make a difference on stiffness. But with all of that thickness right under the foot I was thinking it would make things very stiff. especially for a guy my size. I guess I'll split the difference and go with 11 mm and adjust from there. I like this thread though, please keep...

I'm going with a 185 cm fat ski 139-105-126, slight tail kick.I hate twin tips. Not sure about camber yet. For my first ski I think I'll stick with traditional camber. Future designs are definitely in the works for a reverse and or mixed camber ski, Rossi S7 like. 2-10-2 with a flat spot should be f...

OK so I'm at least in the ball park. What do you think of thinning the waist out to 10 or 10.5 mm. I'm not a big guy I'm only 5'8 and 150ish so I'm not looking for the most burly ski out there, just stiff enough to perform the way I want it to. I think I'll beef up the tip to 2mm to keep it from get...

core design

SO now that I am done with building my shop. I'll be building my core profiler this weekend. My plan for a profiler is basically 2 sheets of MDF for top and bottom with 10- 15 spacer blocks in the middle held in place by T-nuts and allen bolts. So for core design I'm looking to make a fairly stiff s...

with the baseboard heaters I should be able to hit at least 70 deg. I also plan on tenting a tarp over the press ans baseboard to hold the heat in. I will have to paly with that some to see what temp I can mantain.
