there is some insulation under the metal roof. It is not much but there is 3/8 R3 insulation board under the metal. If you see anything shiny in the roof inside it is because the backing on the insulation is aluminum foil. This will help reflect some heat back down. I also taped all the seams betwee...

The press is in. All in all not too bad getting it in place. We backed her up the ramp and most of the way in place. Then moved her closer with the 3 ton floor jack. After that we used a come along and held her up while we slid the saw horses in place. Then some final tweaks to level her up. Start t...

The press did not move today. I was not able to rally the muscle power to move her until Tuesday. I did some more interior work mostly cosmetics, I built the stands for the press. these will be 3 sets of 400 lb capacity saw horses trussed with plywood on the sides and on the feet as well. These 3 po...

No Stowe isn't open for another 2 weeks. Killington is the only resort open right now. I have heard the hiking/skinning/skiing is good on the top 1/2 of the mountain. But the bottom 1/2 is still grim. I'm without an AT set up right now (broken toe piece on my freerides) plus trying to get this shop ...

thanks man.

I've been working on this project of building skis from ~2 years now. I'm hoping that within the month I'll have a pair to show for this ski season.

I really have to start looking into materials now.

I'll post a couple new pics tomorrow maybe if I can get the press moved into the shop. Everything on the shop is basically done. i just have to hook up the heat tomorrow and doe some interior organization stuff. This workshop project has taken me ~2.5 months so far. I'm really stoked on how it has c...

fa, that is one big math brain you have there. Just like MM the numbers might as well be hieroglyphics to me. But the pictures make perfect sense to me and after looking at those diagrams I think my press is going to perform well and if not I know that adding additional vertical posts will fix any d...

MM, I'm planning on testing my press under progressive loads and measure deflection. I'll start with 20 psi and work up to see what happens. I'll add additional posts if things deflect too much. What is thought of as an acceptable deflection range for safety and for not losing camber? In my head I w...

how about deflection for a wide tube steel frame. 6x6 tube steel stitch welded together with 14 inch H beams for end supports like this, with a center post front and back. Image

yeah those self contained spray systems might be my best bet. I'll see what the local auto parts place has. Really spraying a ski would not take all that long. So if I could get a minute or two of adequate pressure I might be ok and then let the compressor recharge to do the second ski. Not sure. I ...

after some research it is the low CMF that is really the limiting factor with my compressor. Most good HVLP guns are in the 6-10 CFM range. i did find a couple with lower CFM ratings but I may just have to opt for some other option or give one of the lower CFM guns a try.

see that's what I wanted to know. So what size nozzle should I use for clear coat stuff like System3 WR-LPU top coat?

school me on HVLP sprayers

I'm looking into an HVLP sprayer to top coat some veneer top sheets. But I have no clue about sprayers. Fill me in on the stuff I should be looking for in a sprayer. I don't plan on spending more than $100 for a sprayer so forget the self contained systems. I just need a decent gun that will put a n...
