For what its worth they should be able to get those same boards @ 6-3/8" x 5/8" x 6' to save a few steps. If not Cali Bamboo quoted me just over $100 a box plus $25 fedex to Blaine.

I'm still very new to this whole CNC thing, but I use $5 ebay tools almost exclusively for MDF. Partly because I crash them more than I'd like to, and partly because MDF dulls tools fast. I've tried HSS, and solid carbide higher end stuff, but none of it worked any better than cheapo ebay tools. MDF...

Crown plastics

Does anybody have a direct contact over there? I've been trying to get in touch with someone for 3 weeks through various 'contact' email addresses on their site and can't get a reply. Or to cut to the chase, anyone know if their 'natural' base material is the quasi clear stuff you can get from vario...

Sounds like you guys are getting more than what you need, or you need to shop around. I pay ~$5/m or less for peel ply and release film, no special deals or connections, and stuff is never cheaper in Canada. I buy the Airtech 'econo' series stuff, but it does the job. I get it through Composites Can...

I tried the most neon orange paint I could find under clear bases. Between the epoxy and hazy base material it lost a lot of its brightness. Still bright orange, but not nearly as neon as a colored base would be.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree getting the epoxy off, or keeping it off in the first place would definitely improve the likelihood of getting places like that to work on them. Any tips on how to get it off without a big belt? Bases on all 3 I've made so far have been pretty much dead flat, so...

On the upside, the old man is taking his out patrolling tomorrow, and now that mine are at least sorta cleaned up I'm going to take them for a rip Saturday, even though the forecast is shitty. This season has been brutal so far on the coast. Price check on aisle 6 http://forum.vwsport.com/pics/data/...

Do any of you guys have trouble getting shops to work on your stuff? There aren't a lot of options here in Vic, but I had to haggle with the guy at Sport Chek to get him to even do a base grind to clean up the tiny bit of epoxy that got under the bases on my first set (I know, but the other option i...

It was your broken tool drag knife that gave me the idea, so props for that. And agreed, the veneer was a royal pain in the ass. I cut the mountains first and its mostly with the grain and went very well so I got a little too confident. The letters cut fine, but I had held them down with spray glue ...

Ground a drag knife out of an old broken blank I had. Way, way, waaaay nicer than what I was doing for the base work. No mess, no noise, no cleanup before putting the edges on. Then got a little carried away after some test pieces that worked well. These turned into a giant pain in the ass, and work...

Off the shelf adapter plate won't work I don't think. Mount area of the core is cedar and I doubt it would hold screws very long. Its about a diameter off center so I should be able to go straight sideways with a small plate if I need to. Only real downside is that the barons/dukes are pretty tall a...

We'll see, I don't think it will be terrible but I may just be optimistic. Will try it with the short side on the inside edge and if it sucks I'll make a little aluminum offset plate to center the mount.
