Are the Skis self-built or bought? Every factory ski has a middle marking, either on top of the ski or on the sidewall (often a "I"). The center of the boot should be at the center of the ski, so at this marking.
If the skis are self-built, you'll surely know where the middle is ;)

Hi, didnt take pictures from the rest of the building process, but everything worked as planned - and I'm quite a perfectionist ;) Some pics taken just now inside, will take some nice ones tomorrow at the first ski tour of the year. Ski is 174cm long, is about 116-78-106, so a classic touring ski. T...

Hi, also built a belt grinder some years ago. Its much more work than one thinks at the beginning. Spent more than 100 hours and 600€ for it. But it works ;) You need to decide what you want to spend your time on: Building skis and skiing or building a machine. If the time for your hobbies is scarce...

Used to build knives before I came to building skis. The main advantage of building skis is that I really love testing and using the stuff I build. Thats why I stopped the knive business for now. http://www.spame.de/sonstiges/7weihnachtsmesser/1.JPG http://www.spame.de/sonstiges/7weihnachtsmesser/2....

Nice Edges, Part 2 Had some time to do some more work: routed the base and glued the edges to it. I really like the 1 piece edges, will only work with them from now on. http://www.spame.de/skibau/IMG_0317.JPG From the excess base material, a form to keep the base in place is made. I also use this f...

I had a lot of thoughts about different radius over the ski. Dynafit does a lot of that, often using the narrower radius in the back of the ski. At first this sounded quite unlogical to me, but after some thinking about it I really like the Idea and will test it someday. My thought why it could be v...

Touring Ski - first try
Hi, time to show some work - the finished ski is hopefully done by the end of the week. Its going to be a classic touring ski, 78mm underfoot and 174cm long. I want the ski to be quite hard because I'm used to riding pseudo race skis everywhere. So the final weight will be around 1300g per Ski. 1) S...

Well, there are quite huge differences in Austria regarding the total amount of snow in one winter. The Arlberg region around Warth is one of the regions with the most snowfall in the whole alps, while many resorts closer to the central alps couldn't do without artificial snow. (Though all resorts h...

Damn, I really want to come to America for one winter, you have to have sooo much snow - at least the way you design your skis tells me ;) Working in Austria as skiing instructor all winter, my idea of an all mountain ski is about 80-85mm underfoot ;) Here, a ski with 100mm is regarded as pure pow s...

Hi, no I dont have a pic of a board finished with Trizact. Just know the Trizacts from finishing metal. They leave a very even surface without being too agressive. Regarding the surface of Trizact belts,I doubt they will do a hairy finish. (Though I only used very fine ones, about P600) The hairy fi...

Hi, as chenzo wrote the problem with snowboards is that they usually aren't really flat, even if they are new. So if you want to have them perfectly flat, you have to take away a lot of material. Just get something with a really straight edge so you can measure how flat the boards are (as shown in t...
