back from the dead, fun leftovers to be used !
Hello everyone, It's been a while since I've been here.. and even more time since I built my last pair of planks.. After I built my first pair, 10 years ago, I was taking small orders for friends and such because I liked it... the materials paid for themselves I was was paid by having fun doing it.....

I didn't try the Duravision5050 yet but even CrownPlatics told me it's less durable than other topheet materials. However I don't expect it to peel and kinda delam like in your pics. Do you sand/round the top edge all around your skis (edge between the topsheet and the sidewalls) ? On my first build...

OK got some interesting news : even though the printing is on the rough side, the bonding / ink side is the smooth one, which has been flame treated (the printed side has been wax infused, hence the printing) So that changes the game since the product is 100% OK. I'm gonna keep some of it but if som...

Clear base material
Hi all, I'm thinking of getting rid of some clear base material I bought last year. I have a 50m roll, I believe it's from Crown Plastics, the 2001 grade, 0.055" thick. The trick is there's some "printing" on the bonding side of the material (ink side if you're screen printing) so bas...

Hi guys, Just got a reply from Jay @ Crown Plastics. Looks like the fact that the product has some waves when unrolled is pretty normal. He told storing it flat with some weight over it in a warm room might help, but he couldn't guarantee it. Also he reminded me the product (5050) is corona treated,...

what Twizz says... It would be as effective and cheaper (probably heavier though) to put 1/4in strips of a stiffer wood while you make your core... would it really show ? not even sure ! I use a mix of poplar (good weight) and maple or ash (for strength) on my cores, I'm very satisfied... to adjust ...

Keeping plastic materials flat
Hi all, As some might have noticed I started another project in my skibuilding experience : screen printing ! One of the many difficulties I'm facing, which might not only be screen-printing related is how to get really flat plastic material so they're easier to use. Everything that comes in rolls (...

I'm not sure since I didn't really looked into sublimation for now but I believe the aluminum has to be there, it will stock a bigger amount of heat that just the blanket. Basically your heat blanket heats the aluminum so it will be at the right temperature as soon as you push it against the topshee...

OK, now is the funny part, the one where everyone is laughing pretty badly ! Just back from the shop to check my stuff... guess what ? In the last days I've not been printing on the 5050 but on the leftovers of the Crown Durasurf I have from 3 years ago (I was wondering why I had only 5 pairs of ski...

There is no protective film on my 5050 (or if there is it sticks really well and is almost invisible !).. but you asking me that makes me want to double check if it's really some 5050 I got (bought it direct from Crown though.. I don't think they have a lot of different topsheets this thickness)... ...

MM -» Yes vacuum is mandatory, or at least I can't think of any other way (except double sided tape) to hold the topsheet material down on the table. You don't want it to stick to the screen and be lifted with it when you want to change the topsheet... it would be a mess (I tried actually...) he way...

OK I'm not gonna create another post about screen printing, might as well keep all the info in the same place... so here I go ! (if this post need to be moved to another section let me know...) I'm giving screen printing (for topsheets) a 2nd try right now. I'm using the Nazdar ADE serie epoxy ink +...
