I read somewhere in the past that the waist of the ski should be around 55% of the running surface length. So if a person wanted to put the ball of their foot on the mid running length and the center of their boot on the waist, I would imagine that it would be pretty easy to measure that distance on...

Moving the binding even 1 cm makes alot of difference in the way a ski initiates. I was really suprised. The binding marks for most skis are an average of where they think you should mount the center of the boot. Most womens skis are mounted 1 cm ahead of the normal mounting spot on a ski that is no...

Good information. Thanks to everyone participating. So it appears that the shape of the ski would be pretty much normal with the waist behind the mrs for a half pipe ski. That would be about 55-60mm behind the MRS. That would put the ball of your foot right on the MRS. I am stoked about using that M...

Crystal is a pretty good place to test skis since we get just about every kind of snow known to man, sometime in the same day! With over 7 feet of snow in the past couple of weeks, we had a good chance to test skis in all of it. If you can build a ski that does reasonably well in most of the conditi...

Crud skiing
I was out last weekend on a 178 homemade cap skis with a slight early rise in the tip only. I noticed the tip felt kind of loose and liked to search around. It didn't give you that confidence that it was going to go where you wanted it to go. The ski was freshly tuned with nice edge hold. It is a so...

Half Pipe Skis
I have a person interested in building a good half pipe ski and I have no idea what kind of characteristics are needed to get it to perform well. Anybody out there who can translate performance into features that are needed on this kind of ski? Do snowboards have the same kind of features? How about...

The company that I spoke about did hundreds of boards a month and had no Hassles drying their cores. They used a formed fixture and used a heat blanket. The other company made a heat box and put their cores in it to dry on a small fixture. They were pretty sucessfull at it and they used pre preg to ...

If I remember correctly, Volkl used to cut the camber into their cores. I don't know if they are still doing it or not. Their skis always had a lot of energy in them. The claim was that the fibers were in a neutral position when in the cambered position so when you flexed the ski, it reacted immedia...
