Re: Mould building material?

I am assuming that by "chipboard plywood" you mean OSB (oriented strand board), correct? If so, it depends on what type of press you want to use it in. In a vacuum press it shouldn't be a problem if you sand everything smooth. In a pneumatic press I would guess that the mould would crack u...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

For tighter bends you could try making a second tile nipper with a smaller (maybe even rounded) "nose".

Re: Should I cut out the wood and glue

Kinda hard to understand what happened from your post, but I assume you drilled your insert holes in the wrong spot. If you drilled the holes in a raw core (i.e. not already pressed into a board), then I would recommend plugging the holes with wood dowels glued in with regular wood glue (preferrably...

Re: Soild Wood skis

Depends on what is "viable" to you. Others on here have successfully built skis without ptex bases. Here are some older posts with info on this:

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

I assume this means that the vacuum was not pulling enough or I did not use my j-roller aggressively enough to really flatten the skis. Did you put a breather fabric over the skis during pressing? Just asking because it's hard to tell from your pictures and this might be a reason for the lack of pr...

Re: Neb Powshape

Fortunately not! No new snow either though haha.

The new board looks great...the wavy parts of the flax/carbon almost look like wood grain.

Looks like they did. This is their old core configuration:

Re: Vertical Fiber in Cores

Bcomp used to use biaxial flax fibers vertically in their cores for that exact reason. They had +45/-45 degree layers laminated between sections of end grain and flat grain balsa. However, in their new line of cores they have stopped doing that and incorporate balsa wood sections rotated to +45/-45 ...

Re: Roarockit - alternative manual vacuum pump

Don't see a reason why it shouldn't work. It's a regular vacuum bag made from vinyl. You can buy something similar from https://www.veneersupplies.com/categories/Vacuum__Press__Items/Vacuum__Bags/ in the US. The difference is that the Veneer Supplies vacuum bags are not designed to easily work with ...

Re: Roarockit - alternative manual vacuum pump

From what I've heard it is a pretty good system. I know of a guy who presses pow surfers with it. The reason why it doesn't come up that much on here is probably that their larger vacuum bags haven't been on the market that long.

Re: Neb Powshape

Unfortunately it was raining here too. The "Föhn" winds brought us warm temperatures and rain :/ As for the epoxy fully curing. I usually leave my board to cure for about 5 days before I cut the flash and finish them. Some epoxies can take up to 7 days to fully cure depending on the condit...

Re: Vacuum infusion snowboard layup

Alright, then my guess would be what I already mentioned. I think something went wrong during sublimation which caused the ink to not transfer properly into the topsheet and now you're seeing the layers beneath the topsheet shine through. Looks kinda like a resin swirl on a surfboard ;)

Re: Vacuum infusion snowboard layup

Thanks for this detailled write-up and the photos! I have only built surfboards with vacuum infusion, which is a simpler process as you don't have any impermeable layers. It's a great alternative for home builders that would like to keep the sticky mess with epoxy to a minimum. :) The topsheet disco...
