Demo bindings are definitely the best option.. Just quite expensive here. The Looks would be perfect and a good price, but EVO won't export to Germany and they don't seem to be available here.. Not to worry. I will ask around. Here is a seller willing to send to Germany: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141...

Demo bindings are lighter and generally higher performance than rental bindings. I use Look PX12 Demo, exact same as Rossi and Dynastar. They offer brake widths of 80, 100, and 120 mm, all interchangable. These bindings are easy to find brand new on eBay for about $100 US. EVO dot com has these with...

Sounds like a good process pmg . My guy just drills the holes, I do the mounting back in my garage. Been using Titebond type 3 glue for the screws, so far its been water tight. My ski tech works on skis for the US ski team and other top racers. He is fast and accurate with the drill jig. Takes about...

Hey pmg , let's agree to disagree on mounting bindings yourself. I've done it for demo bindings but I first made accurate measurements of a real drill jig and then machined my own drill template on a mill. These days my local ski technicians will drill my skis for a few beers. Can't beat that. I agr...

Nice ski design, very similar to my daily drivers. (see my journal) Core profile of 12 mm underfoot is fine for this type of ski. 3 mm at both ends seems too thick. 2 mm to match the tip filler is better. 3 mm would be over three times stiffer than 2 mm. The stiffness comes from the composite layers...

Dr. D, As you know ipe is rather hydrophobic and doesn't soak up much liquid so I apply a couple very heavy coats and let it almost dry completely, then I wipe off the excess. Seems to hold up very well in use. Easy enough to refresh the look mid-season with another coat of stain. http://www.fototim...

I bevel sidewalls using a router and chamfer router bit having a 22.5 degree angle. The router is mounted on an aluminum plate that is cantilevered over the ski. The ski is pushed beneath the stationary router and is supported on a piece of MDF that has a shim to create an arc matching the ski cambe...

On my single-wide ski press my cores are located using thumbscrews. These fit into shallow dimples drilled into the sidewalls about 1 mm deep. http://www.fototime.com/84A4523916473A3/large.jpg http://www.fototime.com/C9A7E14FEFC7B4D/standard.jpg After aligning the core as shown above during my pre-b...

Hey Falls, glad you remember my set-up. I've used this same technique of having matched upper and lower press forms to make skis having conventional tip rise radii with no issues. The key is to keep the bladder hose as flat as possible. No cat track required. In fact the advantage of having no cat t...

floor boards work fine Yes, but unfortunately most of the online resources for six foot length vertically laminated bamboo flooring have dried up. Seems most of them were offering 5/8” x 3.75” x 75” planks, twelve per carton, but when you call to ask for a stock check they say not available. One re...

Ouch! That's the going price for Ipe, about $14 per bd. ft.Prak wrote:... it would likely be at least half the price of the chosen IPE (5/4"x6"x15' = $107.55).
We have another local vendor selling 5/4 Ipe for much less:
http://www.highmountainforest.com/
Perhaps they ship small quantities?
