I like using parchment paper as well. The Reynolds website even has a coupon for $1 off. Also keep in mind that wax paper is NOT the same as parchment paper. I made that mistake once and it doesn't work that great at releasing.

While I am still a "friends and family" builder, I enjoy checking out your site and seeing what all the smaller guys are up to. If I weren't building my own, I would probably have some skis from one of the companies on your site. Who knows maybe some day I'll be on the list but I am still ...

Youtube video, having fun on my Soul Skis

The season is finally winding down here in Tahoe and I found some time to edit some footage. I threw in some random mountain biking and moto stuff since I ran short on usable ski footage. I had lots of problems with my camera this year and 90% of the time it wasn't working properly and I warrantied ...

Great idea. But if you are thinking of patenting it, it has already been done. Wintersteiger makes them and they sell them for $90 to retailers only. So there is still a market for them for the home tuner and you could charge way less! Everything Winterstieger sells is overpriced. I loved using them...

I agree with Jono. I usually do my boot center and ski radius center at the same spot. This makes the most sense to me to have the narrowest part under my arch. I also make this point at 55% from the tip for everyday skis. For a specialized pow ski I'll go 1% back for tip float. Mounting a demo bind...

Two methods I have used with success: Sticky foam pads. The first pad is as thin as the edge height and keeps the base in place. Two in the front of the ski and two in the rear. After the base is set, I place the core on top of the base and put more sticky pads on the cassette at the edge of the sid...

Big Boulder was my home mountain back in the 70's and 80's. My sisters and I used to be on the brochure cover rocking jeans, boot gaiters, and Mother Karen's tops. Good to hear that it is still open!

I made two pair of the same skis, one with plastic sidewalls and one without. The plastic sidewalls definitely have an effect on damping and hopefully soon I will give them a shot again.

My wood sidewalls hold up fairly well but I am looking for more damping properties.

When doing bottom heat only I have had concave bases, top heat only convex bases, and fairly flat with top and bottom heat. I was recently tuning a pair of skis(not mine) where the thermocouple fell out of place for quite some time doing bottom heat and they were super concave. I like top and bottom...

This is the stuff I use. www.reynoldsparchment.com. I buy it at the local Wal-Mart. Also, this is not the same as wax paper which some might think.

I like using parchment paper as well. It doesn't stick to your boards and lays nice and flat.

Are you using some sort of heated setup? One thing to consider is the masonite won't transfer heat as efficiently as a single aluminum layer. As long as your tip and tail radii aren't too tight I would think it would work. I have used a single layer of masonite without problems other than the heat i...

I wouldn't use it unless your edge step is 1.2 mm. It's a pain in the ass dealing with concave bases and not worth the trouble no matter how much you save.

Reasonable bamboo price?

I just got a couple quotes from bamboo suppliers. NW Bamboo has 7 1/2 X 3/4 X 72, vertical and natural, for $25.50 plus shipping. These are stair risers so no t and g. 4windsbamboo has 7 1/2 X 5/8 X 72 vertical and natural for $57 each :( More than twice the $ for a thinner piece. Anybody buy from N...
