we pull them hot. not right at 180F let it cool for 20 min or so full at 140F. We let others cool overnight under pressure and see no difference. its 95% there either way. Funny you mention 140F. I pressed two pairs this weekend both of them pretty much identical. The first one I only let cool for ...

Consider me interested. What are you planning on doing for sidewalls? Are you talking about shaped and profiled before sidewalls, or with wood sidewalls, or what? What kind of file format works for you? Just a .dxf? Have you thought about offering a template service?

I'm telling you dude, leashes! Everybody says I'm crazy to use leashes, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay $50 for some wide brakes, and bending brakes always comes out ghetto. Ski brakes can easily be bent correctly if you know what you're doing. Granted mine have been know to turn out pretty ghe...

I didn't mix my epoxy with a drill for a long time. It was laziness that drove me too it. I kind of think its safer to mix by hand; there's less of a chance to mix in air bubbles. Most epoxy at my work is mixed by hand. Some is mixed with a low-speed industrial mixer though. One of my teachers from ...

That's a damn shame! Awesome graphics, awesome skis. That's a lot of tip rise. I'm jealous. It looks like you could lose a little bit of rocker and still be rockin.

I have been doing some research in anticipation of building my first press. So far seems like I-beams are the only way to go. BCCB Definitely not the only way to go. A properly built "Mongo-style" press will not deflect enough to effect camber at all. Guys are building presses out of wood...

But the race for a 3kg/pair fatty is definitely on! I would be willing to bet Goode skis has already done this. Maybe not 130mm in the waist but close. Mr. Goode himself told me he ads weights as ballasts to the tips and tails to make his skis more stable, and they are still sub-8 lbs. Interesting ...

Find a shop with Montana tuning equipment--or a shop that knows what they're doing. Yes, an edge-high ski will ruin a Wintersteiger stone, but it doesn't have to. My skis are always a bit edge high--I don't router a recess groove in the cores, and they are pretty easy to flatten. A good way to do it...

I just got reminded of something from these pics.....only the green ski on the right got VDS over the edges. The ski with the huge core shot doesn't have any and the edge is still totally intact. I'm still a believer in VDS for some reason though. The skis were built last season for St. Patrick's Da...

Core Shot Carnage

I can't believe the abuse these skis took. The main core shot along the edge is probably 6-10 core shots combined into one awesome core shot. That green base material has been pretty tough for me too. Just not on those skis. The ash sidewall is a bit mangled, but if that was an ABS sidewall, the ski...

80C in one min? While that is quick, wouldn't that cause a bunch of uneven heating throughout the mold and press making it press differently? Not really. With a lot of power you have a lot of control.. until you loose it. like a nuclear powerplant, it is great til you get a meltdown. I'm sure you'v...

I had no idea Mervin was such a cool company. After they told me 100 times it started to set in though. It was cool to see how they glued on their edges using weights instead of clamps. I really wanted to see how they made their sidewalls....or is slimewalls? I can't remember which company that is, ...

So which skis were you using? I was on the green pair on the far left of the top picture in this thread: http://skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2707 It's actually pretty similar to the others beside in the picture. This particular pair has an ash core with maple sidewalls. The dimensions I h...
