we want it to be able to withstand a lot of pressure. I keep wondering why everyone goes for so much pressure, most marine type epoxies caution about too much clamp pressure and I now know that it is not a matter of forming the ski since it is completely pressed to the mold at as low as 0.6bar or a...

The T's we we're planning on making from one big ibeam 16x7X.5 making them 8X7X.5 or about that. I checked your lower beams with 50psi and assumed that your frame was 6ft long and each lower beam was loaded up by a fire hose pressure vessel about 6" wide, you will get 2mm or a bit less than 1/...

Re: Our ski press design

What do guys think? Are your lower beams really as small in relation to the top beams as shown in your drawing? Keep in mind that the load on the lower beams is identical to the upper beams so the lower beams will deflect much more than the top. Unless your mold is really strong then the deflection...

Re: questions about clamping pressure, heat, expoxy

Why are such high clamping pressures used in ski building? Maybe it takes all that pressure to get the tips and tails to bend correctly? paul By the way I'm with you on this one, the more research I did on epoxy and clamping pressures the more I was convinced that the high pressures are not require...

Re: West Layup

My questions are: 1) For those with West System experience, how many metering plunges of West Systems are you using to: a) Wet base? b) Wet 22oz glass? c) Wet core, and do you look for absorbtion? 2) I will be pressing in a 60 - 65 degree basment, will 12 hours suffice in the press? 3) You don't fl...

Hello! I cure my skis at room temp and have 10-15 mm camber built in to my moulds, the amount of camber varies with length. Sometimes I speed up the curing process by heating to ~35-40 celsius and I gain more camber, about 5 mm. Henrik Hi Henrik, At room temperature cure does your ski come out with...

[quote="Wheezer"] The important thing to consider with PSI is that it is pounds PER SQUARE INCH. The square inches need to be measured as the area of where the air bladder touches the press. Don't think only of the area of the ski. For us this was about 6" by 80" = 480 sq. in. fo...

Graf Snowboards program Odd results?

I used the Graf snowboard program to draw up a set of skis. When I look at the resulting DXF file the width of the board at the waist does not match the calculated waist width. DXF file gives 98mm compared to 91mm designed. This may not sound a lot but the radius of the ski as designed is 26m and th...

origanally I had more bolts in the design, and all the holes are drilled for them, but I loose 3 inches of ski length if I do it, making the max length of the skis around a 178 or so. I guess that's fine and it will make the total bolts around 16 on each side ( a couple of the bolts can't go throug...

By the way, our press is wooden, and we have made 4 skis so far without any issues in that regaurd. Nothing wrong with wood at all its just a matter of using the materials in an effective manner. The comment on the bolts is just pointing out the weak link in the steel assembly, since the total forc...

how serious of a problem do you forsee this being? are we talking the press blowing apart? I was thinking about adding some clamps of some sort on it while testing it, do you think that would be a good solution to the problem as well? Right now I would not go over 10psi until you add more bolts. Th...

All done with the frame!!!!! Now onto the molds. check out the pictures here: http://community.webshots.com/album/416708061YxYdoH I was looking at your building frame and it looks like a nice job, I see a dangerous weak point though which will limit your pressure or cause failure. It might be that ...
