Re: Splitboard halves gapping
Thanks for the tip! How do you glue the wood strip between the two halves? I always find it difficult to glue something between the halves as it's difficult to apply pressure between the halves.

Re: Desert Skis Log
The melting point of UHMWPE (which is what base material is) is between 130° and 136° C. From your description it seems like you might have hit that temperature at least temporarily. It is not advisable to heat UHMWPE to temperatures exceeding 100° C. The cure schedule for your epoxy looks like it's...

Re: Desert Skis Log
The overcooked look is pretty easy to explain: the photos you posted show quite severe print-through of the edge tangs and even the fiberglass. This usually doesn't happen on the base side unless the base material gets too soft from overheating. For the heat cure epoxy I use, I usually stay around t...

Re: Ski Shape and Profile Guide?
Most people that don't have access to a CNC use MDF templates for the core and base shapes. You can either cut these yourself from e.g. a paper printout or you could have someone cut them on a CNC for you. Changing the core and composite material will change the way the ski flexes and rides - usuall...

Re: Desert Skis Log
What a great first build log! Regarding your first two pairs, by the look of the photos those were definitely overcooked. You really need to be able to measure your temperature on the laminate as the laminate itself also provides some thermal insulation. For the edge benders, maybe you could post a ...

Re: WoodTony
Nice one! Glad it was such a simple fix! As for the inserts, you can cut them down to the desired thickness using a router with a straight metal burr bit in it. Just profile the core to your desired thickness, place the insert into the hole in the core, set the router bit flush with the surface of t...

Re: Ski Shape and Profile Guide?
The reason you're not finding a definitive guide on this is because it would be next to impossible to make one. This all comes down to experience, skiing ability and personal preference. I would recommend beginning with measuring a ski you already like and maybe altering it a bit or use a friends sk...

They are either using a different printing technique or they are covering parts of the topsheet before flooding the back - you could do this for simpler shapes with vinyl cut stickers.

Re: Ski Building Guide?
There are many different ways to build a ski, which is why there isn't really one single comprehensive guide. The thing that comes closest as far as I am aware of is the Wiki page made by one of the admins here, Head Monkey: http://www.happymonkeysnowboards.com/Mo ... /Main_Page

Pretty sure this is not possible in SnoCad. This software dates back to a time before splitboards were popular

Re: WoodTony
Nice first pair! Regarding your camber issues, this is probably due to uneven heating. If you simply set the end temperature, the bottom blanket will usually heat up much quicker compared to the top blanket - the top blanket gets a lot of heat drawn away by the cat track. To compensate for this, you...

Re: Flaxfiber sidewall/ sidecut
Flax fiber can be pretty bulky, so I would say this looks normal. A pneumatic press might be able to compress the fibers a bit and make that line narrower. If your skis ski well and don't delaminate easily, I wouldn't worry about it.
