Re: Its so silent

Yo, it is damn quiet here!!!

Spent an hour or so catching up on all the posts I've missed in a year!

Can't believe I'm still just out of the top 10... WTF!!!
Got a new pair of symmetrical park skis on the go. Should be ready to press next week.

Later,

Re: First Board!

I weigh out 5-6 solo cups (100-200g depending on the size of the board) of resin. Then I zero the scale with an empty cup, put one of those on and pour to the desired total mass and stir. This saves the confusion of "wait is this resin or hardener, or did i use this?" After emptying the c...

Re: Making it big?

I think ON3P had a lot of help from the TGR community, and was one of the first independents to really to use that media and hype to it's full advantage. There were a few others that started similarly, Fat-tpus come to mind, that are still going strong. Is PM Gear still around? They had a huge follo...

Re: Kids Pow skis

Looking good Ben! If you use base material for tip tail spacer you can machine your cores down to 1.3mm at the tip and tails. Lighter glass will make a slight flex difference, but will help make the ski lighter. Measure your bindings and make your mount area flat at 7ishmm just a little bigger than ...

Re: Kids Pow skis

I've made a few pair of kid skis. Use base material for tip spacer, might have to sand and flame treat. I've gone as thin as 7mm core, used 19oz triax. If you put in an extra layer for binding mount you won't drill thru with kid sized drill bit. Anything wider than 85mm is a problem with kid binding...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Curious to see how your silicone holds up. It's time to replace my poly, and vacuum silicone is $$$$

Re: photobucket

I get an email from photobucket just about every day for the last 6+ months saying I'm over my bandwidth for a free account.
I just delete them. My photos are still up on all the sites I've posted them to for now.
Guess we'll see how long it lasts.

Re: Looking for Vacuum Press Setup

BAR,

https://www.joewoodworker.com/

Look for a cheap oil-less vacuum pump on ebay, or a refrigeration rotary style pump.
You don't need a gauge, just another potential leak point. I gave up on the vacuum switch and just left it running, usually overnight.

Just a thought (or 2)

Re: Doing things on the cheap

Nice write-up and first board. I used West epoxy for my first few builds, not the cheapest or the best but it is readily available and will work fine. I'm curious to see how your poplar sidewalls hold up to the rigors of Onterrible ski conditions. I would think you would want something a little hard...

Re: Vector net fabric

Yup, used it in a ski for the boy couple years ago. Can't say it really added anything other than it looks cool. No way to quantify any structural advantages, it was a one off. Did look cool though!\ Foamez was the cheapest I could find it at the time, still have enough left for another pair. https:...
