It's painful for me to watch my work throw away thousands of dollars worth of scrap pre-preg material off the cutting table....especially the the uni-carbon. I have a lot of different ideas I'd like to try using uni carbon in my skis. I've been very tempted multiple times to slip in a few ski-shaped...

I only have heat on the bottom of my press. And while it works fine now, it has been a learning experience. My mold is flat under foot, and my first few pairs came out with all sorts of camber. Around 15mm. And the tips and tails flattened out....which sucks. It was full operator error on my part. M...

I've never heard of or even seen the S7, so had to look it up. I've been out of the loop about manufactured skis over the past few years. That's so awesome! You must spend a lot of time in the backcountry then too. The S7 is the reason I started building skis. It opened my eyes to a lot of differen...

I tried a little test piece on the Lectra table at work and I couldn't believe how clean the cut was! No mess, no kerf, nothing. So much cleaner than any router I've used. I love the thought of my base material going from its packaging, to the clean room where the machine is located, and then to my ...

If you are breaking boards you need to work on your technique, unless you are riding faulty equipment. I know and ride with some of the best riders around and broken boards is just not something that happens very often at all. Really not trying to start something here, but........Little Cottonwood ...

Re: How do I determine needed core thickness for a new desig
I dont want to spend all the time to make core templates and spend all the money and time making skiis that are too pliable of to stiff, so was wondering how I get the right core profile for the stiffness I need? Classic! Ya I don't want to make skis that suck either. You will soon learn that this ...

It's crazy how similar those skis are to the ones I build a month ago for my girl. These are 130-110-120, 20m turn radius. Poplar core with ash sidewalls profiled to 2-10.5-2.5 with a flat area of around 6 inches. I used 22oz triax on the bottom with 19oz triax on top. The topsheet is paper-backed Z...

Here are some shots of my first jig. I should have put the threaded rods through the center of the rails. This would have made them more vertical and not get all mangled by the router. http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx333/powderho001/basejig3.jpg http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx333/powderho...

Nice work KW! I think jigs like this will become very popular with the home builder. The first one I built (lame without pictures I know) was pretty similar to 333's as well. Instead of using plates and toggles clamps, I just used threaded rod with nuts that sandwiched the rails and center support. ...

I think it was from an Elan Snowboard factory tour video that's out there it shows them using a CNC material cutter. It's feed rate was flyin. I think it would be cool to have a CNC router that had an interchangeable material cutter head. It's seems to me that dragging a knife to do the cutting woul...
