I've had the idea that with a ski press you could clean up the delam, shove some epoxy and fibers in there and press it again.

Then you would have two pair!

I like this concept as well. I did a test core a couple of weeks ago and the only problem I had was holding the core in position. As the board hits the low area, the tips and tails lift slightly causing it to float and shift. I'm going to try some hot glue at the tip location to see if that works. A...

~9.4 and 5 mm of deflection
I see the 9.4 is the core thickness. What is the deflectiion. I see a chart with it shown but what does if mean. Is it the flex under a predefined weight? Do I need to adjust that according to my weight?

Sorry if I don't understand the terms.

Thanks for the response.

Core Taper Formula and Center Location for Alpine Mount

I know this is a big chunk to chew but... Is there a formula that people use to determine a good starting point for the taper from the mounting location down to the 2/3 mm? OR are you picking a number out of thin air to start with and adjust as you test the skis? Also what is a good setback from cen...

Good question. We split up the activities. I've been handling the electronics and the wood and my bud KT (as seen in the pictures) is a welder and dealt with the steel. My guess would be around $450.

Craigslist is a good place to look. I found some on there after we had started.

Check out the hot wax machine in that video. http://www.basegrind.com/basegrind/waxer.jpg Step 1 - Steal your wife's thrift store electric frying pan. Step 2 - Buy a silicon roller (Grainger?). Step 3 - Add wax. Makes 30 to 40 servings Enjoy. If anyone finds a resource to buy those rollers, please s...

Thanks. We're getting very close. It's been a long road only having one evening a week to work on it. Next hurdle? Cores. The PID was intimidating at first, but pretty straight forward after a little basic understanding of the features. No welds at this point, just bolts. KT, the brains behind the s...

I've read those posts. Using just an iron is a less expensive option initially. Were the hotbox starts to payoff is in the speed at which you can attain maximum wax absorption and the cost to do it. For competitive sports getting new skis going as fast is possible quickly can be the the difference b...

Once we get 'er wired in place, your welcome to partake. It may require a core group of people using it to keep it happy. I'll probably add a bench and a HotBox for the local racing crowd too. I think I can also get another smaller belt sander for the initial de-glassification.

No not really, but who wouldn't like to say they have a Wintersteiger. The stone is almost new. I figure a couple hundred bucks in belts/emulsion and I'll be good to go. I've got access to space for a shop and a bud who's an electician. I just couldn't pass it up. It's got the edge grinder attachmen...
