torsional flex

Hi,

I was thinking about how to minimize the torsional flex in a ski.

I was thinking about really small carbon rods in de width of the skis.

What are your ideas?

Burny,

I think you are not completely right about that.
The surface pressure from a vacuum press gets in optimal conditions close to 1 bar.
With a blatter or hydraulic press you are able to get +5 bar of pressure.

Great looking skis.

How did you make the graphics?

I had a look at the following german topic and it seems it is difficult to get it evenly heated.

Is there anyone who knows where or how to get a heating blanket solution in Europe?

special top shapes

Hi, I wondering how manufacturers like Atomic and Völkl, two of Europes major brands, are able to press their skis. They have round and rectangular shapes on their top side. Are they using molds and prepregs or are they wet laminating but how do they get the excess resins out in that case. I think i...

The reason why I'm asking is I have a good friend which offered me the possibility to use the autoclave he is working with once. But at this moment I'm not sure it will be a good choice. I have no press at all at this moment and I don't know right now where to get my materials like the blatter and t...

I see a point to what Justin says.

The thing with autoclaves is the pressure is on every side and therefore the resins can't go anywhere. They stay where they are.

Or am I wrong?

I've always been wondering what the advantage coulde be of an autoclave. I saw some company using autoclaves for laminates but I think an autoclave doesn't press ass much excess resin out of the lamination as such pneumatic or hydraulic presses. Or am I wrong? We don't talk about costs in this case ...

Congrats to you and your very nice press.

Can you tell us what the biggest differences are in your results with the vacuum bagging and the press?

Justin,

Do you accidentally have some pictures of the presses you've been building?

I think you want to make a torsion box ski. In this case I think they wrap a light material into a epoxy impregnated fiber. I think the torsional stifness can be compared with the torsional stifness of a tube or maybe better an ellips tube. I've been reading a lot about foam use in laminations and t...

PVC sheet lamination

Hi,

Is there anyone who knows if a PVC sheet will bond to the epoxy lamination?
