you mean ST600? And holy shit. It cost me nearly that much to ship mine up from California. That's a $1500-$2500 machine depending on the condition. If I had the space I would pick it up just for another badass belt sander (that's mostly what I use mine for these days since I haven't made skis in a ...

Years ago I put a lot of thought into a CNC edge bender. I had what I thought looked like a fairly decent design all drawn up in Solidworks. My biggest hesitation was doing an open-loop stepper control (like my CNC router and mill), because if the edge slipped at all in the rollers I would have used...

Meh, sounds like more work than it's worth when left over old fire hoses work great. If you're looking for a side project, sure, but I don't think you will gain any benefits.

How did the epoxy deal with the fire? Sorry to hijack your thread Chris 8) It got burnt pretty bad under where the fire was (garbage bin), but otherwise just got sooty. It was all stripped to bare concrete during the rebuild though and I did a brand new coating (exact same stuff, 2 part epoxy from ...

Does it matter if they bow? As long as the thickness is staying the same, you'll get the same core profile (assuming its now bowed so much the planer can't push it flat)

Epoxy? Best thing I ever did in my shop.

Also, if you have this ability in your CAM software, doing some kind of ramping lead-in will help, versus dropping straight down and running. That way you are slowly engaging the tip of the blade which helps it align itself, with minimal damage to your material.

Gotcha. Does any drag knife software do that? Every drag knife I've seen is just passive. When I cut bases, it's only a couple of cuts so I just reach under the router and spin it roughly in the directly the cut will be. If it's 90 deg off, it will correct itself no problem (I use homemade drag knif...

I have a vinyl plotter, and I've often wondered if I could figure out a way to export usable gcode from it that I could use on my CNC router. I've never really looked into it though. I just don't do sharp corners.

Here's my take (full disclosure, I am an engineer, although I test airplanes, not structure) The math is fairly straight forward for simple composite beam bending. You don't need FEA for something like this. Throw the maths into a spreadsheet and build some tables, make some easy plots, etc based on...

Just remember that any fibers running 90 (laterally on the ski) are doing nothing for you but add weight.

I can't remember how much total it cost me to build the autofeed. It wasn't crazy, but it was certainly more than $60. The motor was a little underpowered (I used a motor from a harbor freight gantry crane trolley), but it got the job done. For brand new skis I use 80 grit to remove epoxy and flatte...

The old Toko grinder I used to have (lost in a fire last summer) had an adjustable fence for doing edges (so you use the main belt, rather than a separate edge only grinding attachment). I bought an ST600 as a replacement after the fire. I've never seen any pictures of ST600s with a fence like my ol...

Looks like he's taping his bag to the mold surface, so there really isn't any load pushing the polycarbonate down between the ribs. The atmosphere is pushing on the bottom just as much as it's pushing on the top. I'd still want more ribs though, just the weight of the materials may be enough to make...
