Re: Black Locust

Does anyone know of a dealer of Black Locust lumber that ships small quantities? I know SkiLogik uses it as sidewall, and it looks super cool. Also, does anyone know about Paulownia dealers? Our local dealer has over a hundred varieties of exotic hardwoods in stock but I don’t think they’ll ship sm...

I looked at ramps brand new skis and they look like asssss. Their process is flawed no doubt. I totally agree with your statement. I saw their entire building process and was not impressed. Their skis are certainly not up to our high standards. I was actually quite surprised that the few used pairs...

Main reason I use tip spacers (uhmwpe) is I worry the bamboo I use for the cores would have a hard time conforming to the tip shape. The ptex is probably heavier than the bamboo so I'm adding swing weight. While I've done wood (bamboo) sidewalls, I've never done a full tip-to-tail core without tip ...

SHIF ski werks

Greetings fellow ski builders. Although I've been designing and building skis since 2007, this is my first post in the Journals section. Shown here are two new designs for the 2014-15 season. The pair on the left are my daily drivers. A conventional camber design with subtle early rise tip. Ski leng...

Very nice skis indeed. Excellent top sheet registration side to side, not easy to do with a geometric pattern like this.

Sam, I try to avoid waste during priming and clean-up by just pouring the stuff back in the container. Can get messy taking the pump apart but you learn how to not waste the stuff inside. Also I've learned to press the pump down with a steady slow force to avoid burps and bubbles. And control the ra...

The resin research epoxy from fiberglass supply only lists fast hardener... sam It's been my experience that if you call Fiberglass Supply they will tell you they have all the Resin Research hardeners in stock. You can buy individual quarts of just the hardener if desired. I like the RR system beca...

Another nice benefit to using Resin Research epoxy is not having to pay “hazardous materials” fees for shipping the stuff. I used to use QCM epoxy and always hated that added shipping fee. I have purchased RR directly from their web site and also from FiberGlassSupply dot com. I prefer FGS because t...

I have used RR Composite Pro epoxy for several ski builds. I use the 2070 resin with a blend of 3100S and 3100X curing agents to achieve a really long pot life. If I have help during the lay-up I just use the 3100S. This stuff really needs a heated cure schedule to achieve best results. I ramp up th...

The yellow indicator is supposed to be in the middle of the window when the boot is clamped in the bindings.

I deleted my post since it was way off topic. After beveling my sidewalls I just block sand the top edge of the top sheet to knock off the burr. I use 60 grit sandpaper and go all around the ski perimeter. I now only use sublimated PBT topsheets and they hold up very well and don't really chip but t...

...Bottom line, every ski is different and every skier is different so if you're unsure buy a set of demo bindings. I totally agree with this statement, and it turns out that I have several pairs of nice demo bindings available for cheap. ;) Here's a link to my posting: http://www.skibuilders.com/p...

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you mold a ski/snowboard with the unweighted contact points being the widest part of the side-cut; when the weight of the skier/snowboarder is applied the contact points both move inward on the ski making the end contact points inward of the widest point on the ski/sn...
