YKNOT Reporting

MAN! After obsessing over this forum all summer and fall I feel like I haven't been back in ages. But now that I'm up at work with some time to waste I figured it's time to go ahead and throw out some shameless self promotion. I AM SO STOKED ON ALL OF MY SKIS!!!!! Seriously, there's nothing more gra...

so wait... some of you guys are skiing on unfinished wood sidewalls without any issues? i did all bamboo sidewalls for my first run and was thinking that I absolutely NEEDED to seal them, ending in me applying epoxy to each set with a paintbrush, which to be honest ended up looking like shit. I'm su...

i'll have to try out that tape you're talking about. i don't tape any of my veneer joints, i glue them a day or so before the layup. my absolute biggest area for improvement is core alignment, my current method just isn't going to hack it anymore. maybe i'll go to dowel style pegs or something. just...

+1 on the micropore tape! Guarantees you'll have no slipping or overlap of our tip spacers, and it's thin enough to not leave an imprint in the base or topsheet (I only do it on the bottom). i've been using athletic tape with some dabs of superglue. i should he seen the writing on the wall, when i ...

last layup is done. technically my worst pair yet! two of the tipspacers didn't seat all the way and overlapped the core and it appears i had some core shift, won't be able to tell if it cleared the edge til i cut them out, it's too close to tell. ugh, i bit off a lot on this first run. at least if ...

no real way to tell if the stretching worked because the vds is covering it. but damn, are they pretty. 4" strip of 11oz carbon below the core. https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/602748_767458101293_1935018195_n.jpg and my first wood veneer pair, full width 11 oz carbon below the ...

two out of the bag yesterday, first was another bamboo park ski, exactly like the first pair. only issue is i forgot my little logo (i hadn't yet put it on my giant layup checklist yet and realized it right before i put on the topsheet). other than that one of my tipspacers swam away a touch but not...

Very ambitious indeed! but looks like you're kicking butt! Keep it up, but don't get complacent... some kind of disaster is bound to happen if you let your guard down! The simple mistakes are the worst. damnit i wish i would have read those words earlier! first pair is out of the bag and wouldn't y...

well 8 pairs in 10 days was a bit ambitious. now, however, i'm on schedule for 6 pairs in 13 days. i'll start pressing the first pair tomorrow. some process shots: https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/1379513_766696427693_1560400464_n.jpg bummed i'm gonna have to cover these with carbon ...

I also use 19 oz triax and no carbon but my cores are somewhere inbetween 13 and 12 mm at the bindings. The stiffest I have ever made where 13,5 and the softest I haver ever made (a touring ski for a friend) where 11,0. The 13,5 are really stiff. 12.4 mm is what we make most skis. Good grip on ice ...

I strongly suggest attaching both edges on at the same time. Any tension in the edges is likely to skew your bases. Plus, I find it faster this way. sweet, thanks for the tip. my cheap ass was just trying to avoid buying more clamps, but when i start adding up all of this shit i suppose what's $30?
