Rocker/Early rise tip and tail molds

Hi all Just drawing ski tip and tail molds to be CNC cut soon and have a question about blending the tip mold to the running length mold. I am planning on flat camber for my first pair(s). I have drawn molds using a wide arc to create what I think people would call early rise (950mm radius for tip)....

It sounds like either the plastic was defective or something weakened it if you have broken both now. Maybe a bad batch of plastic? They should last more than 20 days. Replace the second broken piece and see if they both break again in 20 days? Then I'd say design flaw. I had never broken anything u...

Hi Mike I think your prices seem very very reasonable. I'm in Australia so the shipping puts me out of the equation, but the price for the actual service is great. I am getting templates cut now and it's $100 per hour (about $93US) for programming/cutting, + MDF costs. Not to hijack your thread, but...

i think you win!
Shipping to Australia is pretty bad too. At least there isn't import tax on ski materials or ski gear here unless its over $1000 at a time.

yeah looks like the sidecut runs all the way through the rockered section and ends where the little "true" tips and tails kick up. No early taper from the contact points like suggested in the other post. and i agree they look awesome. have you got inserts and switching dukes from set to se...

ben I am at the same stage as you in the design work for some rockered/early rise skis. There are 2 ways to look at the sidecut in this type of ski I reckon (I won't use teh word rocker!). Either have a "normal" sidecut that extends to the normal point in the tip and tail. For fat skis thi...

I hear you on the costs!
I managed to spend $60 today on threaded rod, nuts, bolts and airline fittings and hose. $60 seems a minium whenever I buy anything!
Hopefully getting a Hitachi router from my family for a birthday gift which will be a nice free change!

Fire Hoses

Finished up the fire hoses for the press today. Had to get new hoses after the original ones were too thick and not very flexible and I couldn't get them to seal. Ended up with PVC layflat hose. Using 2 x 4" diameter hoses that layflat about 6.5 inches wide each. Wall thickness is 2mm. They are...

Thanks redbull. I want to try and do sone screen prints in the future. Maybe not full length to start! I also have a friend who does lino cut prints which I reckon might be able to utilise the same ink as the screen printing. The dye sub printing looks like the way to go for more complex designs. Th...

I agree the skis look great.
With the screen printing did you just print with that specific ink onto the abraded side of the topsheet? What type of plastic did you use for the topsheet and did you have to do anything after you had printed it to help with bonding?
thanks

AK I'd be interested to know how you are shaping your bamboo cores. If by planer/thicknesser with a crib how much you take off per pass and how good a quality planer you are using. My 500 dollar planer seems capable of about 0.3mm per pass without starting to try and fall apart. I think it might be ...

http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=5LSC_5SRTC&ttID=5LSC_5SRTC&Nav= Nick the info on that link says the PFA insulation is good to 260 degrees C (well above 170F which a lot of people press at for epoxy cure). It seems the 36 gauge wire is crucial as it is thin enough to not cause indenta...

i've been able to source untreated bamboo flooring here in the states (near Seattle, WA) for $4 U.S. a board (surplus). they're 182cm long and once the tongue and groove are sawed off they're 85mm wide by 15mm thick This was a post from KevyWevy. Boards arent as wide and would require some joining ...
