posts 7 and 8 would lead me to believe it's maybe not worth it...

The first time you flex your new board it will make all kinds of cracking noises, that's normal. A little unnerving the first time but normal. sam that is good to hear! mine have been doing that and it's been making me nervous. also, if you ever switch over to MAS epoxy, which is what I've been usi...

thanks for the help guys. I can't wait to see how these guys ski. Unfortunately, it's raining all over the east coast right now so it may be a little while till i can really give them a fair shake in some powder. Hopefully they won't be bad on hardpack. I based the rocker profile on a pair of Volkl ...

Build complex machinery is no fun or at least for me. Good point about safety. Afto-feed making world of difference and I think it safer to work with base sander this way. I have old Montana base sander. If you travel to Rhode Island can help with sanding Thanks for the offer (again) I really appre...

Forgive me if I sound like too much of a debbie downer, but you might be getting ahead of yourself. don't worry about that man. it's good to hear from somebody with experience when you're not being realistic. My metal-working skills are pretty minimal. My dad is somebody I could turn to for this (h...

wet grinder plan
So for the winter I have a goal for ski turn-around that will allow me to start pressing a ski on Monday/Tuesday and potentially be ready to ski it on Saturday. One bottleneck for this is finding a place to tune a ski that will be easy to get to from Boston and will be able to turn the ski around in...

thanks for the replies folks. Parchment paper on hardboard sounds like a plan for the near future. I can use the same method to hold the cores in place (nailing them w/ a brad nailer) and trace the base outline and reference markings on the parchment paper so that i know my bases won't be warped. I'...

base cutting / edge gluing jig
I thought I'd share a pic of the jig i used on my last pair to cut the base, and to glue the edges on with. http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/ad257/rightsideways/6F2DDA84-206E-40D4-AAB6-20B1EA9ED103-16354-00000D456AE313C5_zps8de01f79.jpg It gives me something to hold the template to, and when i cut...

Some cheap metal flashing would protect your hardboard I definitely have some of this sitting around. thanks everybody for the suggestions. I guess the next step for the skis i've built is to clean the bases up for a pro grind. I need to poke around the forum a bit more for inexpensive solutions to...
