heke, Although I use a pump similar to that one, I would look for an oil-less pump for ski building. Even if you can't see the oil mist coming from the exhaust it's there. And if you're using it inside the shop it will slowly contaminate anything that is in there. I run my pump outside with a long h...

Been just over 2 years since my last post here. Wow time flies!!! I finally got around to building a new pair of skis. These are a revision of the Portlys shown above. I'm donating these to the silent auction at our local ski clubs comp banquet in early march. We are trying to raise enough money to ...

Are you using heat? Heat will make your epoxy thinner and it will run away/squeeze out. My epoxy is very thin, and has to cure at room temp then get post cure heat or it will run out of the ski. I only heat to 120-140f and my epoxy will run right out of the ski and all over the press! Try your exper...

Clear pine works nice, just hard to find. Most pine is quite knotty. Fir usually has pitch pockets which can cause some grief. Spruce is nice but most here has quite a few big (but tight)knots Aspen and poplar are quite similar. A few small knots won't really hurt. I've used larch with loose knots a...

What I also lean today is that if there is +23C inside and you take glued edges and bottoms from inside to outside -28C and to garage. Even in 30 seconds in -28C bends parts so much that there is new gluing work waiting. It was incredible fast reaction. Bottom was bended about 50 cm..like banana. H...

I have seen here some pictures where the tip/ tai of the bottom with edge is bended to mould before laminating. Someone has just roll with pipe. I was thinking to use same method as I don't know how much my vacuum pump can press. I think that pre bending would also give better result. There is a pr...

Just a quick point about core thickness and binding screws,

When I make kids skis the core is usually right on 7mm.
Once I add 19oz triax, an extra layer for binding retention, a graphic layer and a topsheet I've yet to drill thru with 7.5mm junior bit.

YMMV

Chris, that's pretty cool. I've been working with a company in China and have come up with a design similar to Katals landing pad. This is pic of one quite similar recently purchased by Evolution Freestyle Club north of Edmonton. Big thanks to their club for all the help I've gotten along the way!!!...

Thanks Twizz. Congrats on the new youngun! Ya, I never even got to the spin stage and at 53 probably won't. Even the rail park scares the crap out of me. We had a good park with a good selection of jumps here a few years ago, and was starting to get more comfortable in the air, when a kid got hurt. ...

Forgot to add.. He's got a freestyle comp coming up next week in Jasper. Moguls and Slopestyle He has been working real hard to get this trick under his belt. His plan is to 360 off the first mogul jump and back flip off the second. I guess we'll see how that goes. Last year he ate it hard trying to...

Kinda related to the shop so... My sponcered rider (aka the boy) landed his first backflips on snow today. 1st one was ok, 2nd run he hit a bit of a bump on the in run and ended up launching a bit back seat and stuffed his tips, no harm no foul. 3rd was perfect, good height. perfect landing! I know ...

I think you're using router table, if not this doesn't apply. Set up your table and use a piece of tip spacer to set the depth stop on your router. then put your core blank in and start cutting. Leave the stop locked in this position until you are making something with thinner tip spacer, and you wo...

I have to 2nd what shif said about demo bindings. Mount point is a hard one to get right without some experimentation. Having a demo binding lets you move boot center back and forth a bit to find the sweet spot. And being able to let your friends ski on, and critique your creations, is well worth th...

Assuming you mean triax
Not,
"20/20 tirax glass"

Sideways pics are annoying.

Other than that looks pretty good.
