The Ski Lab -- extra materials and supplies for sale
I started a small custom skis operation and as a result, I have extra ski/snowboard building materials available for sale (I won't use the extra material and need to get rid of it, so quantity and supplies are limited): http://www.store.skilab.com/ Let me know if you need anything. Please note: The ...

Hi Guys! I use finger joints in my cores. In fact, I've glued stringers together without the fancy finger joints. For example, that a look at my old post when I made cores from an old pallet: http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=810 Those cores worked just fine and the two pairs of skis...

Thanks! Each pair I make has a story. My friend Ben likes to write for fun, and a lot of his work has been published. He wrote a neat short story that ended up on his skis. I posted some info about the skis here:Brazen wrote:...Great looking skis btw.

With wood, I pay attention to the grain pattern. This is important to me because pullout strength can depend on the grain orientation, and in some cases it can be significant. Likewise stiffness. On some of my skis I don't even have stringers, but just one piece of wood. True that the stringers make...

Mattman: I'm testing this stuff right now, so I'll let you know how it turns out as one pair will be sporting some of it. You can get it from McMaster, the Garolite stuff. It is very dense and it does chew up your blades, so take care cutting it. There are paper and fiber type as you mentioned, but ...

Thanks, G-man! This is good to know. I took some more measurements with the noise meter located at the center of the room. The square footage of my ski lab is similar to a 3-car garage. The sensor was located at the center of the room. Here are the results: ------------------------------------------...

Thanks, guys! This is good info. I'm going to see if I can do some tests to figure out the lowest noise planer. Right now that's one of the loudest things in my ski lab. It would be nice to drop the noise down to about 70-75 dB, but no louder than 85 dB. Last night I measured the noise level in the ...

Planers?
I need some info here from people who have experience with planers. I'm trying to reduce the dB level in my shop, and the two planers I have seem to crank out a lot of noise. They are mid-range benchtop planers, with straight blades (3 or 4 of them I think). I've heard that the spiral cutters are qu...

G-man -- your comments about the scams make me feel better about a decision I made over a month ago. A writer from a reputable magazine (for wall street-type folks) wanted to interview me and get my professional opinion about the company and the skis. They wanted to write an article highlighting the...
