Those oven type switches sound like they are worth a try. Do you also have a digital temp display at work too? If so you might be set. Im going to set my pid to on/off mode anyway. Variable duty cycle control of a relay is a waste of time, a relay is just an on/off so having your pid trying to bring...

Hey mate, I'm new to all this too and am in the process of making my own heat mats. I have already made a small test blanket and it works awesome, was a piece of cake too. About $30 of fiberglass, $120 for silicon and $30 for a 94 meter roll of nichrome wire. That gives me enough for two blankets. H...

The core in those pics is for a sand board. Plenty of dunes over here but no snow. It is only 1200mm long.
It is pine with jarrah stringers along where the inserts will go.

Oh and I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to all of you people on this site. It can be very rare to find people so happy to openly explain things that they themselves have had to struggle through to find answers. I could not overstate the assistance you have all been or the gratitude I have. Without ...

Oh and the press isn't huge, that mold is just a short mold for a sandboard. We don't get a lot of snow here but we got heaps of big sand dunes so I'm making a small snowboard (edges, base and everything) so I can hopefully test ride it on some dunes and see if it delams or falls apart in anyway. I'...

Kampai Custom

I've been loitering around the forums for a while and am slowly getting my gear sorted so thought I would join the ranks on here with a Journal. I haven't decided 100% on a name for the boards yet but Kampai is the current leader, I love Japan pow and love beer so seems a pretty good name. I finally...

There are definitely some talented folk on here. Pretty hard to go next after the house extension and a hand built Mandolin but anyway. Build all sorts of things, cars, boat trailers etc but one of the more fun hobbies is building custom bikes. Great fun riding from pub to pub along the river throug...

What is the temp just above the surface of the ski during your heat treatment? What are you trying to achieve with the heat treatment too?
Those blisters look burnt in those pictures?

I would have to lean towards good structuring suited to the conditions and a wax job that also suits over a sintered vs extruded base. Obviously both bases structured and waxed the same the sintered will be faster hands down, especially that Volkl VRL stuff, that stuff is nuts. I have seen some pret...

I think the watts per inch is the important part to heat the laminate in a resonable amount of time. My blanket at 200cmx35 cm is 1400 watts. Takes about 25 min to get to temp. The mei one i have pulls the same amps but get to temp in about 2/3rds the time so obviously they made it better than mine...

Hey is anyone on here using blankets of around 1000 watts? I've been playing around with different circuit layouts. I won't be doing any sublimation with it and I don't want to build something that heats up in 5 minutes while drawing 8 amps per mat. So I was aiming for around 1200 watts but the best...
