To print a fullsized base template from snowCAD-x I choose the export to split pdf template option from the file menu. I opened the pdf in adobe reader and printed it out fullsized. To print out the side profile of the ski I choose the export DXF option and printed the DXF out from a turboCAD progra...

When I click on the link to download it, nothing happens. I have a Mac.

Does anyone have any guesses to what the problem is?

Thanks,

Yeah, it seems like triaxial glass is hard to get a hold of but doesn't have any major advantages over lighter biaxial or plane weave glass in overlapping layers. I still want to know why everyone seems to use 22oz triaxial.

Thanks alot for the info. So when designing a ski you should adjust the curvature of the sidecut so that the narrowest part of the ski is in the middle (lengthwise) of the ski?

As a side note, how is the sidecut radius measured on skis without radial sidecut?

Thanks again,

ski shape and binding placement

I've been thinking alot lately about the placement of bindings in relation to the tip and tail widths of a ski. Here are my thoughts: 1. The binding (or actually the ball of the foot) should be placed above the narrowest part of the ski because this is the part of the ski that is pushed down the mos...

Thanks for the help. I thought that 3 layers of 6oz would have the same stiffness as one layer of 18oz. Thats good to know about the increased pop that the lighter glass provides. However I'm still wondering why almost everyone uses single layers of 22oz glass. It seems like using more sheets of lig...

lighter fiberglass

I was wondering what the differences would be between using say a single layer of 22oz fiberglass versus multiple layers of lighter 6oz or other wiegth glass. It seems like everyone uses 22oz fiberglass and I am wondering why this is. Is it just a matter of cost?

Thanks

I've never done it before but I'm almost possitive that it works like inflating a tire. You fill it up to the desired psi (like a car tire) then you turn the compressor off. You would only have to keep the compressor going if air was leaking ot of the bladder.

I might be wrong but I think that for a pnuematic press the ammount of CFM doesn't matter. You just have to make sure that the max PSI is higher than the PSI that you are going to press your skis at.

Thanks for your help. I'm new to this and have a lot of questions. First, I have a 5 HP 13 gallon air compressor that produces 6.2 CFM at 45 psi and 5.9 CFM at 90 psi. Will this be strong enough for continuess use? Also, this might be a dumb question but, if the vacuum bag was completely sealed, wou...

Thanks for your advice. I'm now leaning towards a vacuum press and have been looking at my options online. On fibreglast.com I found one for $100 that connects to an air compressor and pulls 27" Hg. The link is: http://www.fibreglast.com/showproducts-category-Vacuum+Bagging+Equipment-19.html Th...

alternatives to a peunamic press

Hi, I'm really new to this ski building thing and have been trying to gather information before I attempt to build my own skis. I have looked around this forum and have noticed that almost everyone uses a peunamic press like the one shown in the "how to build your own ride" section. This p...
