Fernie free ski feb21/09

Post by sammer »

Chelsea and I spent the afternoon watching the fernie free ski competition.
The final today was held on "richards run" a permanently closed area below polar peak.
There was definitely some spectacular skiing.
I shot some video, [here] is a some highlights. There are 3 in the file.
Sorry for the quality I forgot my tripod and photobucket will only allow 100meg max file size so they had to get chopped quite a bit.
Unfortunately we were too far from the announcer to catch the names of the competitors.

enjoy

You don't even have a legit signature, nothing to reveal who you are and what you do...

Best of luck to you. (uneva)

Some more highlights

Unfortunately later that evening Travis Steeger was killed in a hit and run walking home.
He will be missed.

Montucky.. Fernie ski patrol has to do enough rope rescues every year without opening areas where a fall will potentially kill you.
Its way bigger and steeper than it looks in the videos :)
Besides there's lots of backcountry to scare the heck out of you :D

Hey.. I agree with your daughter there sammer, "why isn't he jumping that cliff?" as if it gets any lower from standing there for 5 minutes.
