Shaping the core prior to pressing

Post by wgfranci »

Does anyone see and advantage or disadvantage to shaping the wood core using a steam press before pressing the rest of the ski materials together?

I have been wondering the same thing. I would think that a pre shaped core would help the ski / board hold its camber for longer. I also wonder though, if having the core preshaped would reduce the "snappy" feel of a solid cambered board / ski.

pros don't prebend.
I think the only benny you get is ease of layup and reduces teh possiblity of core shift if you don't have that worked out, other than that I think that triax and resin would hold a donky's camber

It depends on how you want to do your layup, and how good you are at keeping parts aligned like said above.

If you dont want to prebend, do flat layup on some steel sheets or a cassette.

If you prebend, get a bent "cassette", or layup right in your mold.

Prebending cores wont give them any camber, it only really bends the tips some.
