I'm using addition (platinum) cure silicone. This is what I'm using: http://www.amazon.de/Creato-Silikon-Kau ... B002R5PDB2

It doesn't say anything about pot life, but it takes quite a while to cure at room temp and I've never had any problems with the cure kicking in before I was finished with layup.

This one in Perth, Australia.

1400x430mm, 1000W, about 25m wire in 3 groups. 0.9kg silicone 40A.

Cost about Au$85.

Buzzing nicely under the load. Awaiting a PID to come.

Nice job.
Where did you get the silicone from and how long did it take to cure?

why disaster? If electrical part came out okay. Silicone can be fixed. While it clean and fresh you can topcoat with new silicone even one part in tubes silicone should work as a topcoat in your situation. Make sure never roll tightly or fold blanket after silicon dry.

you need tool like this to spread silicone out

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

There is no electrical component in the mat yet. Its easier to scrap it than try and save it I think as there are lumps in it where the silicone went hard before it was spread evenly.

Hi Goz,

MoldMax 40 with red PU pigment (works well).

www.rowetrading.com.au

Not sure about the curing, just left it overnight...

Also left about 0.1kg for fixing a few dry spots.

See the layup here:

This guy is great! This is what I use, I get the fast red catalyst and my working time is about 30 minutes. $79 per gallon 8.8 pounds.

P.S. He can also get pigment to tint the silicone.

it's no big deal. I was nervous too.
I had no experience building electrical devices and always tried to avoid doing electrical stuff. at the end of the day I built not only 2 blankets I built 2 controllers ( not PID) and yesterday finish completely redoing switching on my base sander and put together phase converter for it.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

About to pick up the resistance wire for this. If someone wants to check my numbers/comment, that would be greatly appreciated. i've copied the calculations to the 'Note' column, so that you can see all calculations. let me know if you want the spreadsheet file.

Where are you getting the wire? It is cheaper to buy two pounds of wire than one pound, the respool fees are kinda expensive. But yes your figures seems right to me. How many parallel circuits are you going to have?
