Dear forum users,
I am going to work with Isosport product ICP 2115 (transparent top sheet).
According to manufacturer information it has to be varnished in order to create better protective properties.
I would like to use spray varnish.
Does somebody has experience with varnishing skies or snowboards?
Thank you in advance

if you have to varnish top sheet what's the point of using it?motoman wrote:The 8210 is definitely better option but the price is twice higher.
I would suggest use the right stuff or don't use it all .... And save all that money.
Many people, myself included, don't using top sheet at all
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I would say contact the manufacturer and ask what they recommend for varnish.
I haven't got any experience with skis, but on longboards I varnish with a 2 component car clear gloss. I use a HVLP spray pistol to a pply it. Normally 2 coats is enough with a light sanding in between.
I intend to try that on veneer on my skis to get a good high gloss finish.
I also want to try just oiling the veneer. As it is epoxy saturated I think oil should be enough. But we are getting off the subject of applying varnish to your snowboards.
As you obviously have compressed air, a cheap spray pistol should be enough to get you going.

I am nobody. Nobody's perfect, so I must be perfect.
The thing is that I have never varnish skies or snowboards, not the type of varnish. I did only doors in my village house.
I have seen some videos where people varnish table with the help of some brush. and then apply light on the surface to make it more smooth.
Which method allows to make surface smoother.

for longboards I used car clear coat similar to this one here..
Something like the Mipa 2 Component clear coat (CPE)

Here is a video (Not very good) explains the process.

Make sure you thin your mixed paint till it has about the consistency of milk.
And you need a pistol like this

Be carefull with what size nozel you get. Too small and you won't get the paint through, too large and it comes out too fast.
My favourate has a 1.2mm nozel. So anything between 1.0 and 1.8 should be OK.
