Mold dimensions

Post by Bucky Mullet »

I'm in the process of building a new mold, and would like to vary the sidecut, width underfoot, etc.. of the ski. Furthermore, I'm trying to build it as a "vacuum box" that will allow it to be inserted into a pneumatic press (eventually) and have the mold be exchangeable within the box. I've decided that I'd like to be able to build skis up to 210 cm (also press kayak paddles, so that length will cover both) and have the skis be up to 6 inches underfoot. How much extra room does the skibuilder community leave around the sides / front of the skis while pressing? ie. 2 x 6" skis = 12 in. , most likely 2 inches between the skis, 1.5 on each outside edge + .25 " extra sidewall to be trimmed later? that would add up to 18" wide for the mold? am I leaving too much room?
Thanks for everyone's input.
