Race skis?

Post by hamradio »

I'm getting into slalom racing this season. My skis are some volkl p50's which are about dead, they started delam'ing at the tails (JB welded them back up, came apart again), and the edges are starting to kind of blow up front (edges are pushing the base out).

So, maybe instead of spend like $400 on some new skis, why not try to make my own?

I'd probably just copy the dimensions of an existing race ski, for now (and maybe in the future play around with dimensions).

My question is, could a homemade ski hold up to slalom racing? (I don't think I'd be as concered about gs)

Don't see why not. Have a look around at other peoples homebuilts here. I think somone has already built something similar to what you are thinking of.

I've had the idea that with a ski press you could clean up the delam, shove some epoxy and fibers in there and press it again.

Then you would have two pair!
