wood skis with durasurf base

Has anyone made wood skis like lightning boards?

Can you explain the process a bit more. did you use a steam box etc?

what exactly did you use for the bases? they look great. this is really what I'm looking to do for a gift for my dad who is a big wood guy.

But I wanted to have something not only that looked good but that he could ski on.

I've chronicled the building process at the links listed above each ski. Check them out and then ask more specific questions.

No steam box. Powder Carvers have black Durasurf 4000 bases. The BC Lights' bases are ipe, a hard wood commonly used for outdoor decks. Turns out the ipe holds glide wax and kick wax extremely well.

Just wanted to point out that lightning boards are full wood skis. I.E. no glass, no wet layup.

Danishstocks skis are beautiful, but completely different than lightning boards. Most any ski or snowboard can be built without a topsheet and attain that beautiful wood look.

This is not what lightning boards is doing. He is actually building the entire ski out of a steam formed piece of wood.
