Rubberized CA is good to use or bad to use I can't tell for your post..

CA is not a "structural" element in skis, if you're using the rubberized CA it's thicker and displaces more of the epoxy...and you don't want that. Ever.

Do you really think the small amour of CA glue used to attach the edge has anything to do with reducing the amount of epoxy bonding the ski?

I agree that any excess CA glue should be cleaned off the the base and edge before layup but my gut says the little bit of CA on the egfe teeth doesn't have much effect on epoxy volume and overall bonding.

But that's just my view. I know you've got more experience with building but I guess I'm sort of missing your point.

Quickly built a prototype today.
Wanted some 5 or 6" pipe for the big roller but couldn't find any cheap or free. The local hardware/ building supply store will only sell 10' lengths.
So trying to find a piece of scrap from a local job site or plumber.
Had some 3" kicking around so I'll try it and see how it works.
Bought a rolling pin at the bargain shop for $2
The rest was just scrap lying around the basement 8)

Mounted it flush with the table.

Ready to try it out.

Still gotta make my templates, bend some edges then I'll be ready to make the boy his skis.

That's got to be one of the best pieces of ski building equipment I've ever seen!
It would be great on one of those antique shows where they show experts an antique and they have to guess what it is for. i think this rolling pin contraption would stump most everyone.
Hope that it works well for you!

Thanks falls.
It just came together from scrap.
The textured plywood paneling was the last of 5 layers of paneling holding the cracked and falling down plaster on the walls of my 100+ year old house.
It's probably from the late 40's early 50's.
I did a pretty major reno a few years ago and still have a few sheets left.
Been using the 60's hardboard paneling for ski patterns.
Finally took most of it to the dump last week, taking up too much room!
Kept a few pieces because it's nice to have rather than buying stupid expensive hardboard. I'm not cheap just thrifty 8)
I guess we'll see if the 3" radius is too small, Hopefully next week I'll find some time to cut base, bend edges, and make a pair of rockered fat skis for my 7yr old boy.

Gotta chime in too. Simplicity at it's best! Let us know how it works. I see one in my future.

That's awesome! Well done!

I do think the main roller is going to be too small though, that is a TIGHT bend for the edges, they'll likely pop off the base... :(

Here's a 12" section of 5" pipe for $30 shipped. You could also cut a bunch of circles of wood from some 2x6 and glue them together?

Sammer - are you intending some sort of retaining block across the top to keep the bases in place once the roller starts to do its thing or is it a length of 2 x 1 and two G-clamps?

Actually thinking hinge on one side and clamp of some sort on the other.
Will have to figure it out when the time comes.
At this point it really is just a prototype, still have to try it out and tweek it a bit.
I'm pretty sure the 3" tube is too small.
Hopefully get to find out soon. (2or3 weeks before I get to that stage)
I'll let you all know how it turns out.

I made this ghetto thing and it works OK. But have yet too press what I
bent.

I used cardboard tube and masonite and 2 x 4's with some west system painted on to give a hard finish.

This is the ugliest thing I have ever constructed.
I made it entirely out of garbage basically and leftovers even the epoxy.
There wasn't enough in the hardener to make the pump function so I eyeballed it.
