adjustable mold

Post by AndrewT »

ok I have a group of friends who wanna make skis. We're all different sizes so want different sized skis but don't wanna make multiple molds.

My idea for an adjustable mold would be to drill holes through the tip/tail sections of the mold and then then holes every 5cms or somthing in the camber section so the tip and tail molds move up and down the camber section then hold them in place with threaded rod bolted in nice and tight

That has been done and works. The only thing to consider is usually people look at changing the camber for every length. If that is no issue, then you just want to make sure you clean the mold very well after each use. If you are sharing the mold with other people, this can be a difficult thing to keep up. Things like sliding sidewalls, tips/tails and register pins seem to be magnets for epoxy. It only takes a few runs without a good cleaning to start to make parts not fit. It can even result in bent/ruined molds.

So cleanliness is of the utmost importance.

Good luck!
