Base material as a tip spacer

Hi,

I am using wood core as the full length of the ski, but would like to try to use a tip spacer/filler of some sort due to some complications.

I would rather not use ABS or some UHMW, I was thinking to use 1 or 2 layers of base material stacked together as it is sanded on both sides and has good thickness it should laminate well. Does anyone have experience with this? Any potential issues in general?

thx

one more question, what is a good way of attaching the tip or tail filler to the core, some sort of tape fabric?

I know that the duck tape will hold but dont think it bounds good to epoxy..

thanks for any pointers in advance!

Lots of methods.

You can staple it to the very edge of the sidewall, and that gets trimmed off with the flashing.

You can tape it on with medipore tape (my currently preferred method)

You can tack it on with a few spots of superglue.

Don't use duct tape, you don't want that inside your ski.

Tip spacer is cheap, $5.50 sq/ft, Base material is about $4. sq/ft (retail prices)
I've used base as tip spacer a few times but know what it is I'm working with.
Tip spacer from crown is straight up uhmw treated to bond on both sides.
Base material may be suitable but some is only sanded/flamed one side, some is wax impregnated and treated to bond on one side.

If in doubt just buck up for tip spacer, it'll save you potential headaches down the road.
