I looked in to adiprene and cant really find any place to buy it, also be doing some reading on ADIPRENE LFP 950A and it says it needs to be heat cured. Is it needed or is it possible to cure at room temp?chrismp wrote:Never tried it like this, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. If you plan on making such a long section with just PU, I'd recommend getting a harder formula (around 60 shore D) to avoid getting too soft tips.
As for smooth on goes I'm looking into the 300 Series, but the fact that it doesn't hold up well in colder climate is making me shy away from it. It gets mighty cold here at times so I cant be having my skis cracking on me.
I guess I have some more researching to do.

The PU on both those boards is very nicely done! Impressive.
The boards are also very beautiful! Great work and thanks for sharing.
Can you please clarify. You said that the Red PU shown in the pictures is actually white 310 with red dye.
The link you posted however (http://www.smooth-on.com/index.php?cPath=5_1120_1156) takes me to these formulas that are clear, not white:
Crystal Clear® 202 - 90 min. cure time - for 1/16" - ½" thick castings
Crystal Clear® 200 - 16 hour cure time - for ½" - 3" thick castings
Crystal Clear® 204 - 48 hour cure time - for 3" - 6" thick castings
Crystal Clear® 206 - 5 day cure time - greater than 6" thick
Crystal Clear® 220 - MUST BE HEAT CURED - Click here to read CC220 Tech. Bulletin
Here is the link to the 310 : http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plast ... index.html
Is this correct?
Thanks!
sorry for any confusion:)
Yes, I am using 310 atm. You can see it on a veneer thread

It is white and precured. The 310 does not work well with pigments.
The above board I've dropped on a concrete floor and the PU survived.
You are correct, the red sidewall is Crystal Clear and works well with pigments.

My sidewalls held up OK (PCM790 rubber from Smooth-On) this winter even though Smooth on advised me against using this product at temps under -20C...backyardskier wrote:Guess I'm not going to go with them the smallest amount they sell is 5 gallons.
So smooth on people how are the sidewalls holding up from this unusually cold winter?
I'de like to go with the Adiprene stuff though (a bit more hard, and better low tempertaure resistance from manufacturer specs), did you find a dealer in the US ? Do you mind giving some info on the pricing ?
Thanks.
A bad day skiing is always better than a good one at work...
Would you like me to put some strips in a freezer? This are 310 strips, 1/4" wide (my router bit) by 5-6mm high, precured PU as per here:backyardskier wrote:Guess I'm not going to go with them the smallest amount they sell is 5 gallons.backyardskier wrote:ok good to know, I'm going to go with them.

Has anyone tried the Simpact 85A from smooth on?

I do not have my heart set on it that much to call up random companies and ask to buy some from them.
Plan B ... smooth on. Just want to find the right product that wont crack in cold temps and doesn't need a pressure chamber.
This are my findings for a no pre cured peace, no pressure chamber:backyardskier wrote:Sure why not.Would you like me to put some strips in a freezer? This are 310 strips, 1/4" wide (my router bit) by 5-6mm high, precured PU as per here:

- after 10hrs in a freezer it bends slightly harder than on a room temp, so a bit more rigid
- there is no way I can break it with my hands when bent
- two PU peaces bonded with epoxy, no way to take them apart.
Hope this helps.
