Is anyone using thick base and edge still?

For discussions related to the type of materials to build skis/snowboards and where to get them.

Is anyone using thick base and edge still?

Post by gketcham »

My first pair of skis had 1.7mm thick base and edge. Now I am having a hard time finding that thick of edge/base. Who knows what I am obviously not finding out? Who knows of suppliers that carry fat edges?

This may sound dumb Montucky, what is CDW's website?

Are most base manufacturers making thick base material as well?

Sorry if these questions are dumb, I am finding nothing.

Any base manufacturer should be able to make thicker bases easily...the question is at what minimum quantity.

I have a couple customers using 1.8 base. Crown is really the only way. I asked Isosport and they do not normally run that thick so it would be a special run and you have to pay the high Euro exchange.

The down side to Crown is when it is that thick in the "clear" version...it is far from clear. I prefer to call it translucent white.

Where would you get a matching steel edge with a 1.8 step or anything close to that?

Provided you buy the minimum quantity, might be a few kilometers.

You don't even have a legit signature, nothing to reveal who you are and what you do...

Best of luck to you. (uneva)

yeah, I can't afford the minimum quantity from CDW. If anyone buys thick edges, I would love to buy a few.

Have you called CDW? They should have 1.7mm edges in now (they arrived Novermber 13th, I think, so I assume they still have some). Not sure if they are only doing by the roll for that stuff, or if you can get it by the piece, like the thinner.

IsoSport I don't think will/can make that thick. When I asked, they said it was 2400m minimum, and they could only do a max of 1.5mm. Crown will definitely do it, and they occasionally have stuff that's thick enough on the online store.

I have blue base material, but no edge at the moment. If I wind up getting edge, how much exactly would you be looking for?

CDW told me they could only do big orders of the 1.7mm. So if anyone is buying 1 million pounds of thick edge, I'll buy a few meters off you!

Seriously?
I know minimum orders can seem daunting but 1,000,000 lbs?

If you still need edge I have loads of 1.8mm (step) 2.5 (total) edge.

You will have to figure out the shipping form Chamonix
