Whats beats owning a vintage Montana Robot Crystal Glide ??

Post by richie »

Owning 2 of course! Adding to my collection of vintage robotic Montana tuning gear that's sat on my trailer gathering rust and dust the past 4 years!!!!

I've just scored a beauty, slightly later model with Siemens PLC (big deal) with side loading feed for skis, still with a 115mm stone though so its a little redundant and quite pricey to upgrade even if I did do a lot myself.

Cost - a few boxes of beer.

I am stripping them to parts as they are full of great pneumatic's and also some quite chunky blocks of ali stock to be machined up for my cnc project. . Not to mention all the handy motors and switches etc etc.

This machine has a very nice frame bed that is going to be the base of my DIY CNC. So I am recycling 2 old Montana robots into my CNC system.

Is this a terrible sacrifice or worthy project - haha we'll all place a different value on these things but it works for me. And it feeds my hoarding habits too...... wife ain't happy.
