Has anyone had any experience with die cutting a base? there seems to be a few possible ways of doing it, with a cnc knife and with a die and press method? just wondering what might work best?

They both work fine. The method you go with depends upon what kind of equipment you have access to, and how fast you want to produce the final product.

If you are building for yourself and have the access or money to buy the CNC, that would be a good way to go.

But, if you don't have alot of money, the tried and true stamping dies and some sort of press would be the thing you could scrounge or build yourself.

Both systems have their own problems and their own advantages. The main thing is to make sure that your drawings are perfect and that they are translated into the product. Often, using CAD types of systems, un-noticed errors create bad results with CNC tech just as can happen with a die. Dies do wear out, though.
